Question Slow forums - Small Site
Having some issues.
So first off..site is.. www.D2DGamer.com
Issue: Slow loading on forums =[ We have over 600 members, so i guess that may be a huge factor. We're also on a shared hosting plan with shitty ram. Is there ANYTHING i can do to help lower load times on the forums? I've already disabled almost all my plugins.
"
I've been working to get Kunena faster on large forums and there has been some process in K1.6. But it's still missing two major contributions to the speed, which are both already present in our K2.0 tree. Caching is not very good solution compared of speeding up SQL queries itself..
You need 2 different threads tables in order to optimize most queries. One saves some information from the thread, like post count and last post, another saves data from every user who has contributed into the topic. I hope to get last one into K1.6 as it fixes some known bugs.."
-- Could that be it? If soo..if i was to switch to a different forum would that help?

600 members ins't a big number, are-you using Uddeim, alpha user points, community builder or jomsocial ?
We're also on a shared hosting plan with shitty ram
Do you have numbers ?
K2.0 is different compared to K1.6, all the things are optimised
I don't provide support by PM, because this can be useful for someone else.

Yes your site is very slow. There are some very serious issues with the setup that make it go that slow. I see page creation times of 5+ seconds.
With the number of users and messages you have you should see the pages build in less than 300ms at the very worst.
You need to get somebody with technical understanding of Joomla and review your setup and server config.
This has nothing todo with the current performance of K1.6 - that you can see on thousands of large sites that are running 10-50x faster than your site.
Sure K2.0 will be even faster, but it cannot solve the obvious problems of your setup.
If your site was running at 600ms per page creation and you want it down to 200-300ms per page - that is what Kunena 2.0 will do for you. If you have pages that take multiple seconds, you have a technical issue that needs to be fixed.
We commonly see bad server setups with wrong or missing parameters and outdated SW versions, but more often we simply see too much and partially bad Joomla modules/components/plugins installed that simply overwhelm the configuration at hand.
We're also on a shared hosting plan with shitty ram
... fixing that would be a solid start. You cannot expect to rent a fraction of a computer and run a high quality site on it.
Hope this helps!
We love stars on the Joomla Extension Directory .

When you say config file, i assume you're talking about joomla config file with the db user and pass and what not. If you really think this is one of the issues..what could be causing it? When i switched host all i changed was the DB info, and the 'tmp' location.
And thanks for the replies guys. really appreciate it.
