Question Avatars loading but not displaying.

I would like to ask for help or direction toward a resource I can use to resolve a Kunena issue on my site.

I am having avatar issues with K1.6. Avatars upload just fine but are subsequently not displayed. I also suspect it is a permissions issue. I also am trying to identify the place in the code where file permissions for stored images are set.

Anyone else run into this?

If this is a permissions issue, I suggest that you look at Securing Kunena . It would also be in your interests to know who owns your folders.

Let us know what you find out.

So what you're hinting at here is that Kunena is behaving correctly, and I should be considering the permissions set on the folders useed by the avatar portion of the code.

And I have been. I think you might be right. I'm checking through Kunena documentation to find somewhere what the permissions values should be....

What I'm hinting at is that, because you don't see this problem here at www.kunena.org (and because in the several hundred thousand websites where Kunena has been installed, that others don't normally encounter this situation, either) this is most unlikely to be a Kunena issue.

I only know what works for me - not for everyone. The folder/file permissions should be set as recommended by Joomla (I've pointed you to where you can obtain that information). I believe that, as an additional requirement, the folders also need to be owned by Apache. Don't ask me what that means, I'm just a user. That's something you need to discuss with your webhost.

Think I got it. Permissions from /media on down were all 755. I just set them to 775 and the avatars seem to be working alright now.

We recommend permissions of 755 for directories and 644 for files. We do not encourage, endorse nor recommend lower permissions than these. A value of 775 for a directory permission may compromise your site security; your choice to use that value is your decision.
