Internal Link to a Forum Post was created by freedomcoach
Hi everyone:
I'm trying to figure out how to insert a link inside a post that takes the reader to a different post in another part of forum. I'm guessing that this must be possible because I've seen links here from time to time that take you to a previous thread or archive. It turns out that this is going to be an important feature for my forum right now. I did search archives on this topic and have been unable to find any reference to it. All help appreciated.

G'day, Howard. This is a fairly straightforward Joomla issue and the archived topics on the subject should still be workable.
The basic approach is to obtain the URL of the item that you want to directly link on your website. The URL could either be a section, category or topic. When you know the URL it's fairly simple to create a menu item (using the Joomla Menu Manager) and plug this value as the target of the link.
Does this answer your question?

Hi Sozzled:
Yes, I was able to capture the target URL using the control click, copy link feature. However, this usable for a forum section or a thread but apparently not for a specific post. Any way of targeting to a particular post?
Sincerely,
Howard

The answer is both yes and no.
For example, your last msg (post #3 in this topic) has the URL www.kunena.com/forum/159-k-16-common-que...o-a-forum-post#66256
Unfortunately, when you try to use the URL it also shows other posts. If you want to target a single post, you need to split that post from the rest of the topic (unless there is only one post for the topic). It actually takes a lot longer to explain what you have to do instead of experimenting with it for yourself.

Hi,
Simply right click the permanent link of a post you want to link to:
And copy that into the topic text. That link takes you to the page and will scroll down to that message on that page.
Hope this helps!
