The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.5 [K 7.0.5] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.
The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the eleventh version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.

Thanks to your help I've been able to get my Forum up and running. I must admit I'm impressed with Kunena but I need some help with permissions. Again I did a search but could not see anything that answered my question so here goes:
I'm setting up three user groups for my forum for our Vintage Bike Club:
Free, Registered and Paid
Free: allows anyone to post in the free Category
Registered: Anyone who has taken the time to register can post in this Category .
Paid: A Category for Paid up members.
What I would like to do is:
Free users can see the Registered and Paid Category and Sections but cannot view the actual posts.
Registered users can post and view on both the free and Registered Categories but only view the Paid Category and Section but not the actual posts.
Paid users can view and post anywhere.
Any pointers on how I go about it?
Thanks as always
Paul

First of all, you can achieve part of what want to do in Kunena. That's the good news.
:pinch: The bad news is that you can't show an index of topics without letting people see the contents of the topics as well. This topic has been the subject of a much-travelled discussion, Teasers - Read post titles without being able to read posts and, similarly, Show category name to everyone but content only to special groups . Further, the kind of granularity that you seek has been discussed for an even longer time in [Merged topic] User Groups, User Group Privileges, ACLs . It's not the first time these questions have arisen and it won't be the last time.
 The not-so-good news is that the information to help you achieve some of what you want is, regrettably, woefully out-of-date and very badly written. The information, such as it is, exists in
- Sections, Categories, sub-categories (part 1) ; and
- Sections, Categories, sub-Categories (Part 2) - advanced setup for special groups
I realise that some of what I've written may not have been the answers you were expecting but I hope that, in providing this information to you, I've helped you to better understand Kunena category permissions and how they work.

Its a shame as I've spent a good bit of time getting to the stage I am at. I'd like to throw my name into the pot and donate a couple of quid for someone to design a quick and dirty bolt-on to allow us to achieve the teaser option so many of us desperately need.
Until its deigned I've worked out a temp solution:
In my free section I'm posting a Sticky on what's in the other sections, hopefully it will get them to register and cough up a few quid to help us keep the website running.
Thanks again

Of course! If you want to promote your site, then tell the freeloaders all about the benefits of joining. Something like "Look at all these other goodies ... but you have to register to see those things!", y'know? I'll pass your ideas along to the development team but I really think you've got your problem solved! Excellent.

Thanks a lot - I've also added some text to the free section Category pointing them to the sticky.
Glad to be of help.

P.S. just had another idea: What about allowing the RSS feed to view all the topics? When the user clicks on the feed item unless they are signed in - it won't let them view...
