One followup question...I'm gonna show my newbiness here: Is there way to grant back-end access to a user (moderator) to allow him to create Kunena categories but not have unlimited access to the backend? (If that is more of a Joomla question, I understand.

Whether a user who is a Manager can access and control the Kunena component, however, that's more of a Joomla-related question.
The short answer to your question is yes.

The Joomla ACL tutorial refers to the component options button that appears on many components, like Article Manager, et. Al. This allows access to be specified for that component. An option button doesn't come up for Kunena. Does it simply not exist for Kunena? Or do I have to do something specific to access it?
Thanks again.
