Kunena 7.0.6 & Kunena 6.4.12 – Security Updates Released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.6 [K 7.0.6] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0.

The Kunena team is also pleased to announce the twelfth version of Kunena 6.4, a native Joomla extension for Joomla! 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 6.0.

Topics that are moved into this category are generally considered to be closed. Users may want to add additional information but these topics should not be resurrected in order to discuss new problems or unrelated matters.

Question How can I display all categories on index page?

I want to display all sections and categories on the index page as they are on this forum, but I seem to only be able to access categories (other than the main menu) by using the drop down selector. I'm new and this is probably a simple fix...but I can't find it by searching the wiki or forum.

I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Ray

G'day, Ray, and welcome to Kunena.

If I understand your question, you would like your forum to behave in the same way as it does here at this website. Is that correct? I think this is a FAQ (see the FAQs tab at the top of this page). Maybe this topic will help you: K 1.6 - Change the "default view" of the forum from Recent Topics to Index

Thanks for your suggestion, sozzled, but after trying all the options to change the default view of the forum, I still get only one section...the general forum section. I can, of course, use the selector or the forum link on the left above the forum announcement area to change to a view with all categories and sections. But these links to expand the page to include all are not easy to find. I'm afraid my visitors need all the categories/sections on display when they arrive.

Or maybe a big red button labeled Open All Categories here.

I looked through all the FAQs and searched the forum and the wiki with all the terms I thought might find the answer. This must be simple adjustment. Right?

Thanks again for your help....Ray

You do not need a big red button labelled "Open All Categories Here". You need to revisit how you have constructed your Kunena Index menu (and, yes, it's a simple adjustment). The general principles are explained in Customised menus in the Wiki, but this is what you need to do in your case.

(1) Go to Menus » Kunena Menus » Category Index » Parameters (Basic) » Parent Category ID
(2) Change the value that you have at the moment - which is "General Forum" - to the first item in the pull-down list (the first item in the pull-down selector looks like "nothing") and save that change.

That's all that you need to do. I'm sorry for my earlier reply. I had mistakenly assumed, incorrectly, that you had changeoriginal menu configuration (and you didn't mention that you had changed it, either). Out-of-the-box, without changes, when Kunena is installed, it works; it's when people make changes that some things may fall apart. ;)

Thank you for your question, Ray. I learned something new that I would not have otherwise known because I rarely change the standard, default arrangement.

I tried to carefully follow your suggestions (see picture for dramatic reenactment) but nothing changed. The entry still defaults to General Forum. Did I miss something? Or maybe I am completely lost in left field? (I'm on Joomla 1.6 if that makes a difference for this problem.)....Ray

I admit, I was using a J! 1.5.23 environment to test my theory.

You should not have checked the Default Page option. This makes your forum your site default page (i.e. your site home page). Is that what you want?

Yes, in J! 1.6 the Parent Category ID is "None" (not <null> like in J! 1.5). You should see the changes immediately unless you have curiously used some caching options on yoru site. Server caching in a rapidly, dynamically changing web environment like Kunena, may cause unexpected consequences. In most large forum environments, it is probably better to disable server caching completely. I don't know if the situation has improved in J! 1.6 or not but there are all kinds of problems if you enable the System - Cache plugin (certainly in J! 1.5). Does this help?
