When viewing a restricted topic (Permissions set to Nobody for Front-End and Administrator for the Admin Access, the topic show 4 users and 1 guest as viewing it.

Does this mean that a guest was viewing is there another explanation why it would show a guest as viewing a restricted topic?

G'day, russojar. I don't think that you necessarily should be worried that you see the information that you're seeing. I've sometimes seen "guests" viewing private categories, too.

However, a few words to the wise:
  1. I'm not sure how the category access permissions you've set should work (or if they work) and I would recommend that you read Sections, Categories, sub-Categories (Part 2) - advanced setup for special groups

  2. Please read the very important information about legacy mode and do something about this now. Please eliminate your dependence on outdated, outmoded and unsupported extensions written for J! 1.0. In my opinion, no-one should be running J! 1.5.22 with the System - Legacy plugin enabled.

  3. Please upgrade to K 1.6.3 to apply the many changes that have been made in this new version.

I upgraded to Kunena 1.6.3.

I disabled legacy mode and when I select the menu item that takes me to Kunena I get this message:

Direct Access to this location is not allowed.

In short, Kunena will not run unless I enable legacy mode.

No. In short, some other Joomla extension - template, component, module, plugin, language - will not run without legacy mode. You have something written for J! 1.0. That other something generates the message "Direct Access to this location is not allowed." You can diagnose and fix this issue by reading the guide I posted a while ago: How to find incompatible J! 1.0 extensions in J! 1.5

Thank you for your quick response.

I went to the install/uninstall and examined all components, modules, plugins, languages, and templates and saw no red Xs. All green check marks.

Do you have any further guidance to find incomparable extensions.

Do I need to do this with the legacy disabled?
