On the latest posts page, there is the option to select to show posts from Last Visit. I have the default in the kunena backend set to this (Since Last Visit).

If a member changes this to say show posts from the last 48 hours, does this then get saved for this user? as at the moment if this user then returns to the Latest Posts page it is back to showing posts Since Last Visit.

Need a way for this to know what each user has selected so it remains like that for them!!

still wish that i can write my forum signature through a jomsocial plugin and do it from my jomsocial profile :(

Where would you imagine this preference would be saved? I'm not aware of a mechanism that caters to this need.

Im assuming it would be saved in the users cookie? Im not sure how it is achieved but it is done on millions of websites, where you choose a preference and it is remembered for you each time you login.

I'm talking about storing an individual user's site preferences - e.g. viewing messages in a certain way such as show me only those messages seen since the last time I visited, or within the last 48 hours, etc.

If these preferences are stored in a user's cookie (and we all know that cookies have as much permanence as promises made during an election) then whenever cookies are blown away, or whenever you use a different PC to login to the site, the preference would also vaporise. Does that make sense?

Im just putting it out there for one of the devs to comment/think about as my users are complaining that they select an option of how they want the Latest Posts page to display, but after viewing a post they come back and it has reset back to the default setting again.

It is quite annoying and i too think that there should be some way of capturing the user's choice.

As far as I know, there is no user-by-user preference. That was the point of my questions. To ask you if you were aware of a user preference to override the global setting that you've applied to your forum. When you wrote "default" setting, I am assuming that you mean the setting that you've used in your configuration. Is that right?

You've made a good point. It would be good if there were some mechanism for storing the user's preference. As far as I know, there isn't. Likewise, if Kunena were changed to allow forum users to exercise their personal discretion in the matter, I am sure there would also be some users who would say that users should not have individual preferences and that the website manager should determine the policy that is to be used by everyone. You've seen these discussions before, haven't you?

It's a good idea. As you say, let's hear what the developer's think about this. Possibly something for K 2.0 or after.
