Question Can't Create Separate Forums by Category

I'm trying to setup two separate menus that point to two separate top level categories (so it appears like two separate forums on the front end). However, I can't seem to get it working. The forums are not separating even though I have two menu links pointing to two separate Joomla/Kunena menus in which I've restricted the categories using "allowed categories" (a menu param for the entry page).

Is this configuration supported by Kunena? It seems like it should because I see you have setup a Forum menu and a Playground menu here. Can somebody explain that configuration? I can't even duplicate that behavior so I must be doing something wrong.

Thank you!

Unfortunately, no it doesn't. I've been playing around with this quite a bit and I think the problem is that there is a gap in the functionality.

What I want to do - which I didn't think was all that novel but I guess it must be - is to have two separate menus pointing at two separate groups of categories, and to have the kunena menus (Index, Recent Posts, My Posts, My Subscriptions, etc) be restricted to their respective categories. I've gotten mixed results in trying to implement this. Here are my findings:

1. The INDEX page allows you to select any category node in determining which categories to display, even a parent node. This works perfectly.

2. The CATEGORY page only permits one child category as a selection in determining which topics to display. You can't choose a parent category. Thus, you cannot display topics within a parent category node or across multiple child categories.

2. The RECENT TOPICS page doesn't distinguish between categories at all in determining what topics to display, so all recent posts regardless of the category they are in are displayed. Thus, any post within Kunena can be displayed.

Anyway, I thought I would provide some information in case anyone else is attempting to do the same as me. I think what is simply needed is for the "allowed categories" configuration of a parent ENTRYPAGE menu to apply to all the CHILD menus, like INDEX, RECENT TOPICS, etc. This would then automatically restrict the kunena menus to the categories that are desired. Of course, it can be configured with no restrictions, if so desired, but that seems to be the default behavior no matter what.

Thanks.
