Question What counts as a view? My view counts are strangely high.

My forum has about 200 members. 17 are Publishers who are also my moderators. Those mods have access to the "Officers' Section". The rest shouldn't even see that these sections exist, much less be able to view them. The forum itself is viewable only to registered users (or so my settings tell me). The strange part is that we have a thread with 19 replies and 1570 views.

That would mean each mod viewed the thread about 90 times, which seems highly unlikely. There are many other threads with shockingly high view counts.

What counts as a view besides clicking the link to it? If that's the only thing that counts, where are the other views coming from? Is my site haxxored?

The count are increased each time an user open a topic, except if it's the author of the topic in this case the count aren't increased, i think it's not a defect.

How many members have you in your forum ?

1.6 RC 3 i think.

200ish. But only 17 should have access to the thread in question.

The view count is incremented when someone accesses a topic. When you reply to a topic or edit a previous reply, that also counts as a view. The view count is not increased when search-engine bots spider your site - and they wouldn't be able to access restricted cagegories in any event.

There could be issues with K 1.6 RC3 (I'm unaware of them) but this version isn't supported anyway. I haven't been able to reproduce any of these symptoms myself (using two PCs and two real people) - these things take time and, when you're asking someone else to help you, costs their time, too. I've never paid attention to these kinds of statistics. I'm sorry but all we have to go on are your suspicions about unusual behvaiour.

Have you logged-in to your site as a regular, non-privileged user, and can you view these cagetories/topics yourself?

Has anyone else reported this happening with K 1.6.0?

hi. there is a problem like this.. just about 2 days ago i had around 50 something views, and now today i got 1800 or so. and most are around 500-1000. when they were all under 100 the other day. Not sure why what changed to effect that.
