Question Joomla-ACL-Extension for Kunena Group Support

Hi,

i have Joomla 1.5.21 and Kunena 1.6 installed.
Currently i'm using the Joomla-Group "Registered" for the "normal" users and "Author" for some users they should have write-access to some categories, they are read only for the normal users.

Now i need one group more, for a new category with special rights for some users.

I think that is not only a problem of myself, so i want to ask you, how you solve this problem?
Is there any Joomla-ACL component solution that is able to create new groups, to use that in kunena?

greetings

marcel

Marcel,

Kunena 1.6.1 (currently in testing) has the ACL support for a couple ACL solutions included. After finishing that support for the next major version of Kunena (1.7) we decided to backport that feature, as it only involved a few lines of new code.

JXControl will be one of the ACL solutions Kunena 1.6.1 will support via the integration configuration tab. There are others, but this is currently the easiest working solution out there. We are also waiting for a slightly enhanced version of ArtofUser that should go onto the JED soon. Both share the same data structures but have slightly different interfaces to manage groups and how to assign users to groups.

Together with these components you can assigned n (as in unlimited) secondary groups to any user. These groups are then available in the Category manager of Kunena to define what group gets access to a particular forum.

It is not the full blown Joomla 1.6 ACL, but it will cover your and 99% of all ACL needs out there.

Kunena 1.6.1 is planned to be available within a week to 10 days - pending any new bugs we might find till then.

Hope this helps!

FYI - Also check out our Extension Directory. The ArtofUser extension got submitted by Andrew Eddie, that works on the same structure of data, but with a nicely done and integrated backend user interface.

We are already running it here on kunena.com on 1.6.1 pre-builds (for testing) and have switched all our groups like Developers, Testers, Designer, Moderators ... to dedicated ACL groups.

Found a few bugs earlier in the week, but are very happy with the integration and how it is working.

This is great news indeed , on the site I just closed down I wanted to be able to do this (assign users) to groups and manage sections/categories that each could/not enter etc.

I will keep an eye on this one for sure.

Excellent feature. And much needed.
