There is a way to get animated avatars to work, but only when they are not resized (GD2 doesn't support animations). So using small avatars should make them to animate.

sorry to drag up an old post, but it seems bizarre that in the age of progress, we have lost the ability in 1.6 to turn off image proccessor and have therefore lost our animated avatars.
Other forums seem to be coping with animated avatars without problems? why has kunena enforced these restrictions.
If I place my untouched GIF directly into say the avatars/resized/size144/users folder, it works fine. Is there any way to point the resized avatar links directly to the
public_html/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/avatars folder where the unaltered avatars reside?

Hello,

When Kunena resize an animated gif, the animated part disappear. You can't turn off image processor else kunena will not able to resize images.

I don't provide support by PM, because this can be useful for someone else.

I had animated avatars working on the previous version , so my members had uploaded them and got used to seeing them on the forum. Our competing forums all have this abililty and so did we.
Now that I have upgraded the forum to 1.6 the flexibility has been lost.
The script must point to the avatar files . If I could redirect them to the unaltered avatars, then the avatars would show as desired, without affecting the proccessing of other images.

I have seen animated avatars used in K 1.6.1 but I can't remember where I saw them.

I have a feeling that if you make all your avatar images the same size as they're used here, at www.kunena.com , in other words 64px x 64px, then you'll be able to use animated avatar images. If all your users have 64px x 64px images then they'll be able to use animated gif files, too. This is something you might have to experiment with.

Perhaps someone who has successfully implemented animated avatar images in their Kunena forum could provide us with the optimum settings?

Thank you once again Sozzled, I shall have a play around. I did forget to say that the new layout is looking really nice, and the feedback from my members is all possitive.
Thank you guys very much
