What is the limitation of 'Kunena'. Is it ok for a site which has over 10 million users or more ??????

We compare and went through many forums and articles like "phpbb3 vs Kunena","vbulletin vs Kunena" ...etc ..etc. And came to know 'phpbb3' and 'vbulletin' use lesser DB queries than 'Kunena'.:(

Our Site is based on Joomla. We really like Kunena because of the integration benefits :).
We have an aim of 10 million users within 2 years . If this really happens, Will 'Kunena' still support that much of users ?? :(

Please ,Please give me a detailed explanation about limitation of 'Kunena'.

Thank You !

Hi,

Very good questions.

Most of the information you find out there is by now somewhat outdated. The comparisons are based on Kunena 1.0 and some on 1.5. By now we are at 1.6 and a main focus has been the dramatic reduction in SQL queries for various pages. Many pages have seen reductions of 10:1 from 1.5 to 1.6

Depending on the features and integrations you enable, you can see 20-30 queries per page down from what was 200-300 in some cases. For example Joomla itself uses about 20 queries for a single page view (also depending on plugins and modules and menus you have enabled.

In addition Kunena has started to combine images into CSS sprites and we have implemented CSS and JS minification as part of our template to speed up page load times. Compared to Kunena 1.5 the page load times seen by Google have decreased by 60-70% now that we are running 1.6 here on kunena.com.

For Kunena 1.7 (planing has already started) we are targeting the next big round of performance improvements with a dramatically revised data model, that allows us to scale to 10-100x larger sites - on a single server.

Today we can easily support 10's of millions of page views per month per single dedicated server.

Development of Kunena 1.7 will start soon after the release of the current 1.6 going stable. We are targeting a 3 month dev cycle for it.

Long story short: Kunena 1.6 is your way to start, with performances features that many other forum solutions have not even implemented. 1.7+ will be out way before your site will outscale the current 1.6 architecture.

If you have particular test cases in mind, we will be happy to include you early on in the large scal performance testing for next releases.

Kunena is absolutely committed to enterprise scale and reliability. We are working on several enterprise integrations/installations of Kunena at the moment that all require enterprise grade software features.

Hope this helps!

We love stars on the Joomla Extension Directory . :-)

If this really happen, you should be well on your way to have a whole team of dedicated developers to do the optimization for you.
Even if you run the non-profit site, 10 mil of users is not something that happens everyday, and i guess, advertising companies will love to put an add on your site.
Man, cmon... 10 mil? How?

Thanks For your detailed reply !!!:)

Even Kunena (1.5) has less features than Phpbb3/Vbulletin .We decided to use Kunena :).

Why your default interface is not attractive ? Lines and boxes everywhere. And buttons are also not attractive.:(

This will be a large forum.Shall we start it with version 1.6 ! ??
