Question Trying to understand the Kunena footprint

Q1. What is the purpose and function of the plg_system_kunena plugin? I temporarily disabled it and didn't see any access/display changes.

Q2. What is the effect to the Joomla environment of simply introducing the Kunena menu object? I ask because I am observing some very frustrating behavior that is directly related to Kunena's presence. These forums are full of references to the Joomla template "making a mess of Kunena," but that is not what I'm talking about. I am referring to Kunena making a mess of Joomla.

Here is why I suspect something:

By design, when a guest views the website, the Kunena forum doesn't exist, and there is no Kunena menu. In this case, the website's main menu functions properly, as does Module X (a type of image/text slider).

After the guest logs in, a Kunena option is added to the main menu and the first symptom appears: Module X stops working properly. Click on the new menu option to open the forums, and all seems well except that the entire main-menu system loses its child menus (no more drop-down menus). Kunena is not messed up. It looks fine and behaves fine. When the user leaves the Kunena forums, the website's main menu is fully operational again, though Module X is still not working--and won't work properly until the user logs out and the Kunena menu option is removed.

The obvious question I have is: What changes does Kunena introduce to the website when its menu object is active? Does it inject any scripts? Kunena is obviously creating a presence that can conflict with a template--rather than vice versa.

I figured out what's going on here.

It is the uddeIM notifier, which is perfectly correlated with Kunena in this case because both systems are dependent on the login/logout state. Disabling the uddeIM module resolved the problem.

If you are using the uddeIM Private Messaging System with Kunena, don't worry. It is the popup notifier module that you need to consider.

False alarm. Kunena's footprint isn't as big as I feared.

These are questions about how Kunena works. They do not belong in the Support category.

We are not obliged to inform those people who post their topics in the wrong section that we have moved their topics. You can use the My Topics view to find out which topics you have created/contributed to and so we don't need to have to tell you what we may have done to your topic. We do not delete topics unless there is a good reason to do so (e.g. spam, violation of code of conduct). If there is another reason we have to remove a message from the forum, we send a PM to the author explaining the reason for removal.

I hope this is sufficient information for you.

Best wishes

System plugin is used to a few tasks:

1) without it most integration to Kunena doesn't work, including our own modules and plugins.
2) when user gets registered into the site or saves his profile, system plugin makes sure that our own user table gets updated, too.
3) in Kunena 2.0 system plugin carries a few other tasks, too and becomes more important to have switched on
