[Merged topic] Upgrade and move forum to new site was created by cornishcharlie
Just to clarify, I have searched the forum for a solution to my problem for a number of hours, and the sheer volume of different answers has left my head spinning. I am fearful of making a big mess up, and could do with some guidance.
I have a few joomla/kunena websites and I always like to keep them relitively up to date.
However, my main website has been a real problem to update, mainly because my host was running an old php (now updated), and thier dreadful response to php problems made me really reluctant to attempt an update.
My other sites are with joomlawired.com, whose customer service is excellent.
So I have built a fresh site on thier server and now I wish to transfer just the kunena forum from my old site to my new site.
New site:
Joomla 2.5.1
PHP 5.2.17
MySQL 5.0.91
Kunena not installed
Old site:
Joomla 1.5.11
PHP 5.2.15
MySQL 5.0.77
Kunena 1.0.8
As you can see, the old site is rather dated, and it is just the forum I need to extract from it, to put in the new site.
I need some guidance as to which way i should go about this.
My inital idea was to upgrade my old site to joomla 1.5.25, then upgrade kunena to 1.7. After that, transfer the kunena forum to my new site (apparently only possible by exporting the database files).
Unfortunately I cannot find a joomla 1.5.11 to 1.5.25 update package.
Any advice as to the correct order of updating, and how to transfer the forum users and posts to the new site would be really appreciated

There are two ways you can move your forum to the new site.
(1) Copy the various (30 or so) tables and, by hand, spend the next week or so patching things so that they might work in a J! 2.5 environment. I would not recommend that you do that.
(2) Install K 1.7.2 on your new site. Migrate your existing J! 1.5 site to J! 2.5.1 and then extract the relevant tables from this migration and place them in your new site.
Details of what tables are involved are contained at msg #4 of [Merged topic] How to move my Kunena forum from one site to another . I wish you all the best of good fortune in this task.

Hey.
I had a joomla 1.5 site with a forum with many posts, I have now migrated to 2.5 the web (oldweb), and I now want to move those forums to a new independent project joomla 2.5. (empty new web)
What boards need to move?
Thanks and regards.
