I tested the new Kunena 1.6.5 with Joomla 1.7.0 on multi language support.

I have 3 languagesactive with the J! language switcher. After adding a lot of menu items and using the new menu association possibility in the by Kunena created menu I'm able to change language within Kunena and the Kunena top menu change the language. If you understand what I mean. Very nice!

I have to test a little more because I somehow loos the "top menu" in between. When I click on the language switcher they appear. I think I have to activate those menu items again somehow. I'll let you know.

If you now add a language field to the category table, add this field to the category mainanence and change the database selections on this table to include the language you have a native multi language solution. I do not think someone wants to translate any topics or answers.

If not for a 1.6.x version I hope for 2.0.

Kunena 1.6 doesn't support the new features from Joomla 1.7+ and it will never do that. The version is not in active development (=new features) anymore as almost all the new work is done for K2.0.

We have thought of adding language support to Kunena 2.0, but it's not done yet. There's only limited number of time and too much to do :)

Hi Matias,
thanks for the comment :)

I agree that adding multilingual official support for 1.6 would be an overkill. But it seams to work according to my tests. I only sometimes loose the "Top menu" but clicking on the "flags" restores it. I hope you skip the backpack from J! 1.0 and 1.5 in the K2.0 version.

I hope you'll at least prepare the K2.0 database with the language fields. As I wrote I think it's only meaningful on a forum level.

If you think you can have use of a tester with a multi lingual test enviroement I'm abel to help. It takes some time to build up such a site.

Please read what I wrote in relation to a similar request from someone who wanted to be part of the ]Official Kunena Testers Group in Joomla 1.7 . If you feel that you meet those requirements, please go here: Official Kunena Testers Group .

IT will be not easy to do that... you have to learn how Joomla! do this all thing.

Hi Sozzled,
was only a suggestion to test multi lingual capabilities. Sorry :side: I do not have the time to be a general tester. I am an experienced Kunena Forum moderator. But I'm working on my own extensions with multi lingual support.
