A couple of question.. was created by GTR
Hi all and first of all, many thanks to all responsible for this wonderful joomla extension!

I have a couple of questions ...

1. How can I create a private forum for moderators and administrators, this needs to be only accessible/visible by members in this category, I notice some users have their admin and mods room open and probably don't even realise it:

ridefordime.com/forum/11-admin-a-moderators-room

2. Is there a way we can setup things so that the first few posts by new users have to be validated by a mod or admin before appearing in the topic?

Thanks in advance!

G

G'day, GTR, and welcome to Kunena.

The answer to your first question is found by reading Sections, Categories, sub-Categories (Part 2) - advanced setup for special groups ... although, I admit, this article really needs to be updated to it more in a suitable context for K 1.6.

To make this category visible/accessible so that only forum moderators have access to it, you need to grant your moderators some other Joomla access privileges (e.g. Author, Editor, Publisher rights) or to use a product such as ArtOf User for J! 1.5 to achieve a similar result.

The answer to your second question is to use the Review Posts = Yes option (see Sections, Categories, sub-categories (part 1) for more information).

To expand on question two: There's no way to just review the first couple posts. (as far as I know). It's either review all or none at all.

Reviewing every post is a lot of work and if you and your mods intend on reading every post, couldn't you just remove any posts you deem inappropriate and forgo the review feature?

Thank you for your supplementary question. This is one of those questions that is asked a lot and we've had many suggestions how to deal with the problem.

I have written before, in How to protect my forum from spam , that sometimes this is a difficult challenge. For inasmuch as you open your website to just about anyone to join, you also expose your forum to the possibility that it will be abused by those people who do not have your site's best interests at heart.

I have also written before, in User Groups, User Group Privileges, ACLs , that we understand that in certain circumstances, new users may need to have their posting rights restricted until they have passed a probationary period.

I also recall having written, in other contexts, that if we (as website managers and forum administrators) treat our users as responsible adults then they will generally respond in kind and will behave as responsible adults and that our users will not abuse the privileges that we extend to them. However, in the real world, there are people who do not respect these things and there are those whose ideas of fair play and responsibility are twisted. These are the risks that we accept when we create our websites and open them to the general public to participate in them.

The idea you have suggested has merit. I am sympathetic to this idea. The feature does not currently exist in Kunena. Perhaps you might consider submitting your idea as a suggestion to our Feedback facility and let us also hear what support others in this community will give to it.

This is a very busy forum here at www.kunena.com and every day the moderator team is active in monitoring the messages that are posted here, helping people get the answers they are looking for as well as ensuring that the smooth operations are not disrupted by others whose interests are not aligned with this community. That's the job and we try our best.
