Merged Kunena and SEO: Why would I need ANY third-party SEF plugin?

As the built in joomla SEO is not up to the task.

It shows page title of the thread as "keywords" and main joomla description as the "description". I want some SEO to work like it does in vBulletin Boards. In vBulletin Boards, their SEO gathers all the common words used in the whole thread + the thread title and shows them as "keywords" and it takes a chunk from the 1st post and shows it as the "description". It works brilliantly and improves visibility in search engines.

So is there any SEO for joomla/kunena that works like this ? B)

Thanks :)

I don't know the answer to this question. I can only speak for myself on this matter. I use the standard Joomla SEO feature but only to generate SEF URLs.

We've had a similar discussion on this subject before: See [Merged topic] Kunena and SEO: Why would I need ANY third-party SEF plugin? . Most third-party SEO extensions written for Joomla seem to cause problems with Kunena. I don't know why that seems to be the case but the weight of evidence seems to be stacked against using them.

Interesting, I just checked the source code of this page and realized that it is doing exactly what I am asking for. It takes the 1st post and shows it as description. What are we using at this website ?

This site uses vanilla-flavoured, unadorned Joomla SEO. There are no third-party SEO/SEF additives here. B)

We are running the latest Joomla 1.5.x together with Kunena 1.6.0 RC1 (as of this writing - soon to be updated)

Hope this helps!

So there must be some thing new in 1.6 meta generators

this is meta info from my demo site running latest Joomla 1.5.x and latest Kunena 1.5.x
Code:
<meta name="keywords" content="Welcome to Kunena!, Main Forum, Kunena, Forum, AutoBlog" /> <meta name="description" content="Joomla! - the dynamic portal engine and content management system. Welcome to Kunena! (1/1) - Main Forum - Welcome Mat - Kunena Forum" />

and here are the same meta tags from this page
Code:
<meta name="keywords" content="What is the best SEO for the forum, Kunena 1.5, Kunena, Forum, Kunena - To Speak! Next Generation Forum Component for Joomla" /> <meta name="description" content="As the built in joomla SEO is not up to the task. It shows page title of the thread as &amp;quot;keywords&amp;quot; and main joomla description as the &amp;quot;description&amp;quot;. I want some SE..." />

you can see the difference.

So is it some thing to do with new 1.6 version that the meta information is very relevant to the thread ? specially the description.
