Nope you do not get it. Let me try to explain it differently.

I have 10 posts in a category named 'Contest'.
All 10 posts are open (no need to lock because the contests all happen at the same time).

I would like it if my posts could stay in order by date they were published, and not ordered by when last reply was. Because since all contetests (posts) are open my users can, and are encouraged to post to any and all contest posts.

But because my users are doing what they are supposed to do, this particular category I would like to have looked a bit more organized. Right now, all my posts in this contest category are open and are supposed to be replied to, ALL OF THEM.

But what happens is one user replies to post 1, the other post 23 and now my Category looks a bit unorganized. as instead of the order by date published, I get an order by date last replied.

Now I was hoping there was a trick to doing this, but though maybe it would be easier to simply sticky each of my contest posts, but I then found out those too are ordered by date last replied instead of date posted. Which is fine and works for me and it should work like that, but I was hoping there was a hack I could apply to either:

Order a specific category by date posted.
OR
Order all stickies by date posted.

I dont think I can make it anymore clear then that. It has nothing to do with my users breaking rules, or me not setting them. It has to do we me wanting tweak kunena to my needs.

As far as your snide comment, your 'point you stress everyday' has nothing to do with this post. And in regards to my one size fits all solution, this is the hacks, tips and tweaks section. I came here looking for just that. Not to be told how to run my community.

I could keep myself gainfully and profitably employed for life from this.

I am quite happy to solve your problem with a technological solution. If you are able to define exactly what constitutes "bumping a thread", I can write the PHP code to stop it happening. My guess would be something like this:

IF <the-person-posting != me>
... AND <the-category-id = whatever-the-category-id-is-to-be-restricted>
....... AND <the-message-content != whatever-is-not-allowable>
THEN <don't-allow-the-item-to-be-posted>

Would that just about summarise the logic?

For $60 per hour - I'm very cheap, BTW - I would be more than happy to do this because, I know, as soon as we think we've defined the rule for "whatever-is-not-allowable" ... someone will find a way around the problem ... and you'll be asking me to make a further change ... and I can just hear the cash register clinking! :woohoo:

Nothing snide, nothing sinister in my remarks. I'm trying to give you good, honest, helpful (and free) advice. Please, calm down, read what I've written in my earlier posts again.

I understand all the points you've made:
  • You want to encourage your users to participate in a "game"
  • The game has "rules"
  • You want to find a way of making sure that your users follow the "rules"
  • You're trying to use "sticky" posts as a way of running the game.
I have no problem understanding all of this. :) I'm merely trying to tell you that the technology doesn't exist to do what you want to do ... and that's the point that you don't get. Perhaps, $60 per hour for my time might help you understand the point a bit easier?

But, perhaps you're right. Maybe I have misunderstood you. You originally wrote:

Hey guys, I have a certain category where I do not want users to be able to bump a topic no matter what.

I read this to mean that you didn't want your users to misuse the category and write ***bump*** whenever they had a mind to do this. Perhaps you were asking "How can I have a category where no one else can create a new topic? and leave just one topic sitting at the top?"

The answer to that question is simple: tell your users to use the Categories tab. Stickies will always remain on top. OK? :)

No you really dont get it, and on top of it your a douche bag to boot. I just ran through a couple of your other 'helpful' posts. They are few and far between and riddled with condescending remarks.

Im not asking for a new never thought of technology. If I had to dumb it down (which I have in the last post), to the easiest way possible would simply be:

How can I arrange my stickies to be displayed by date posted, not date last replied.

Now if you truly understand that last line then you should be able to understand my request is no different than any other post within this category 'hacks tips and tricks'.

Your right, I have a game.
Your wrong, my game has no rules, (none which are of Kunena's concern)
Your wrong, my users have no rules to follow (none which are of Kunena's concern)
Your wrong, I am trying to user sticky posts to ogranize my forum. (In this case a particular category).

So please, instead of trying to write me off as just another user that doesn't know how to run their forum, take a minute to really understand. I know what I want, you dont. I came here asking if there is a solution to what I want, not to watch you try to impress the real mods (which is so obvious you are trying to do) with your half ass answers that at this point aren't even relevant.

Instead of you 2 ruining the topic/thread, some constructive talk would be much more helpful.

Education is just one solution.
The wanted feature is another.

Personally, I cant see this feature being substituted by education or larger forums. You cant rectified, that the users just has to learn the way it is. On the other hand, I see many normal forums (on line with Kunena) support this feature, so why not Kunena?

One slap for the threadstarter too:
Be better at asking questions.
Your line in nr 4 (or 5?) post said it all:
How can I arrange my stickies to be displayed by date posted, not date last replied.

I dont think this is possible - except if you 1) edit the templates or 2) sql queries yourself.
Editing the backend is NOT recommended.

Editing the templates means more work, and if you should decide to upgrade, you'll probably have to do the editing again.

So .. It's more or less up to yourself if this is really needed or if you can find some other way (locked topics with links to another discuss-able forum?)
