Question Front End Configuration help

Hi,
I've installed Kunena Forums 1.5.9 for the first time and even though I've scoured the configuration page I have not been able to achieve what I want for the user front end experience. If you look at the attached image, I basically want to get rid of everything boxed in with red. I have a very computer-novice audience and I want users to just see the very basic information. Even though I configured the forums to not use Avaatars or announcements yet I still see the avatar and the announcements link on the page so I figured I might as well check first to make sure there aren't some known problems with configuration since this release is so new.

Any thoughts?

- Rob

Hello,

For this you need to a bit of hacking, so start by read this doc for remove the avatar and the links logout and announcements : docs.kunena.com/index.php/How_I_can_disa..._or_whole_Profilebox

I don't provide support by PM, because this can be useful for someone else.

Hi,

I finally got around to implementing your suggestions. I'm sure I could eventually find the files, but could you save me some time and tell me what file(s) to edit to get rid of the "Mark All Forums As Read" buttons?

Thanks,
Rob

... and now you want to start changing the product? :side: In the whole time that I've been using Kunena (and Fireboard before that) I've never heard of anyone wanting to remove this feature.

xillibit has provided you with the general direction (there are no configuration parameters for this, so you will have to modify the PHP source). I'm sorry but this is something you're going to have to figure out in your own time. ;)

OK. I'll take it from here. But I must disagree that it's "changing the product". It's just changing the layout. My users are mostly 60-something people who get easily confused by computer-related things and having a large button that says "Mark All Forums Read" is not going to mean anything to them (not do I think it's useful in this context) so I'd just like to get rid of it (as well as the drop-down navigation that seems superfluous in our case). When each user logs in I just want them to see the two or three boards we're going to have and let them read and write posts. I'd prefer to call it "Basic" vs. "Advanced" layout.

Regards,
Rob

Good luck. Points taken ;)

Unfortunately there is no easily configurable way to achieve what you want but, by the same token, no-one has asked for this feature before (in the 15 months or more that I've been using this type of forum). Whether it's changing the behaviour or changing the product, I agree, that's "semantics" however, I would gently encourage you to familiarise yourself with the basic features of this great (in my opinion) piece of software known as Kunena before tinkering with it. We get more requests for help involving problems that users have created (by tinkering) than we get questions about how to use the functionality that exists out-of-the-box!

I would expect, even if your users are novices (or likely to be easily confused) when it comes to computers, if you remove the feature to mark all forum topics as "read", someone will ask you "how can I get rid of all the NEW! "things"

Cheers ;)
