Question Select Language Button

Seriously how hard can it be to implement a 'Select default forum language' button.

Have read most of the posts here about multilingual forums and none of them provide an easy way to specify your default forum language.

Am currently building a site that is in japanese ....
Yes Joomla is default set to japanese / yes the ja-JP xml file is set properly ...

and still it defaults to the english language file.
how hard is it to put a select into the joomla config page that lists all available (installed languages)

THe only way that has worked is copying the contents of kun....english to kun...japanese and overwriting the english file.

Any ideas anyone
(exasperated would be an understatement) :S

I too run a japanese website using joomla 1.0.15 released from joomla japan. The method that I assume will work is to set the site to be utf-8 and then modify the language.php file for joomla so that the admin calls are in english while the user calls are in japanese. I know it will work as the component joomla gallery has seperate admin and user language files for many languages. I just copied the user japanese file to overwrite the user english file while leaving the admin language file as english. AND IT WORKS FINE!!

I would like to achieve the same thing with kunena and joomla but other than complete translations of the language files for both there seems to be no hybrid.

regards
