What ive started to notice with k1.5.12 is there is no minimum character limits and users of the forum are actualy allowed to submit posts with only a thread title but no post content, i was woundering if theres a way to change this like the way it was solved with the forum search feature.

We don't support hacks.

Kunena is an open source project. You are free to change Kunena to suit your own needs but when you modify the software your cannot reasonably expect that the community will be able to help you sort out any problems that may occur afterwards.

The purpose of the Support categories (whether for K 1.5 or K 1.6) is to help people get Kunena running according to the way that the developers intended it to run. Sometimes, along the way, things don't work in a way that makes sense to any reasonably-minded person. In other words, sometimes things need to be changed because they were designed wrongly. Sometimes users discover impassable hurdles because of the way that things were designed. Most importantly, our primary task is to ensure that we quickly discover and eliminate the source of problems that may affect the whole Kunena community because of a defect in software design.

We are aware that Kunena 1.5 has a number of "defects", shortcomings and problems. K 1.6 has fixed a lot of those issues and, I concede, has introduced a few others, too. The point that I want to make is that K 1.5 only exists as a temporary relief for those users who have not been able to overcome the obstacles that prevent them from upgrading to K 1.6. K 1.5 will be maintained for a little while longer to attend to any security risks that may arise but, in other respects, K 1.5 will not be enhanced in terms of functionality.

For most people, upgrading to K 1.6 is a matter of a few mouse-clicks and it's all over. For others it's a case of overhauling their websites and replacing out-of-date software that has always been a potential source of problems; for these people the task may require a few days of work.

You should ask your question in the K 1.5 Hacks Tricks and Tips category. Perhaps someone else, with a continuing interest in hacking K 1.5, might be able to help you. The Support category is for reporting defects.

But you just stated it was designed wrong this is the purpose of this section of the forum to provide help with achiving the task not telling me to go download 1.6 allot of people still use kunena 1.5 if you dont want people using it and looking for support then maybe this section of the forum should not exsist or be locked of.

I did not state that "it" was designed wrong. I was trying to say that sometimes things may turn out unexpectedly differently to the way that the developers intended. I am trying to get the message across that whatever may appear to be "wrong" in K 1.5, unless these issues cause significant risks, these things are unlikely to be fixed with that version. K 1.5.12 was intended to be an end-of-life version. Some flaws have been detected and the development team will soon be issuing a maintenance release known as K 1.5.13. But this newer version falls well short of the improvements that have been incorporated in K 1.6.

It's true that the message about K 1.6 has not yet penetrated throughout the community and, for that reason, K 1.5 continues to be used. When people discover that K 1.6 is the way ahead then people will make the switch. In the month or so that K 1.6 has been available it has already been implemented in around 100,000 websites around the world. The take-up has been most encouraging.

I accept that the question about what "support" means may be difficult for people to understand. The description for K 1.5 Support states:

If you need technical support with Kunena 1.5, post your questions here. This category is mainly meant for bug reports and solving issues. Please use another category for other topics.

We have attempted to clarify what "support" means in the description for K 1.6:

Please do not use this category to ask for help if K 1.6 does not work for you in the same way as it works here at this website. Please do not use this category to request a change to the standard behaviour of Kunena.

We understand that K 1.6 will not suit some users - not the majority, just a few. For various reasons, some people have experienced problems with K 1.6 and they're unable to make the change. We understand that and we stand prepared to assist users who want to go ahead. In the meantime, K 1.5 provides a fall-back for users to implement a web-based forum on their Joomla websites while they deal with the other issues that prevent them from upgrading to K 1.6.

At some time in the future the K 1.5 section will be locked but, because K 1.6.0 has only been in existence for a few weeks, it would be premature to do that now. When the time comes to say farewell to K 1.5 we will make sure that users receive plenty of notice. The process of giving that notice has already begun. It would be unfair to those people who downloaded K 1.5.x - there are still people who have not upgraded from the first versions they installed nearly a year ago - without giving them the opportunity to know what are our plans. It would also be irresponsible to not give people a lifeline if they can't use K 1.6 for whatever reason prevents them. There are still a few people who continue to use K 1.0.x because they are still using Jooma 1.0.x. Even though there is no active support for K 1.0, the software is available for download to those who cannot use K 1.5.

The purpose of the Support category is to assist users who are having technical issues that prevent Kunena working way that it was intended. It is not the purpose of the support categories to provide explicit instructions in cases where people merely want to change the standard behaviour because Kunena does not suit their individual, specific needs. There are other categories for those purposes and we encourage members of the community to assist one another if they share the same interests. The purpose of this forum is to assist the wider community and to encourage the community to assist one another.

We do not support hacks. We encourage people to share their ideas, their hacks, with one another. Sometimes the developers will adopt those ideas and include them in the development trunk; sometimes they wont.

I hope I have explained what the support categories are supposed to be used for and why there still exists a support category for users of K 1.5. K 1.5.12 continues to remain, and the soon-to-be-released K 1.5.13 will become, a supported version; however, with the focus now on K 1.6, this support is limited to correcting software errors that cause serious problems. If you have evidence of a software error or a serious problem that affects your use of K 1.5 then you should use the Support category. If you want to ask for a way to change the standard behaviour of Kunena then you should use another category.

The only reason i will not go with 1.6 is because i dont like the templates, perhaps if there were more or better looking ones i would consider it, Even if i could use 1.5 templates on 1.6 then i would go with it.

You can't do this in K 1.6 - you have to post something - therefore the problem has been fixed with K 1.6. The recommended support option is to upgrade to K 1.6.
