Hi all,

Im trying to find some solution for a very slow forum running kunena, the database have more than 2.5 millions of posts (+2gb database), but seems like isn't ready for big forums, i tried creating a new index, posts and threads for increase speed of queries, but the non-optimized queries are a lot.

Some solution? help? suggestion?

I've been working to get Kunena faster on large forums and there has been some process in K1.6. But it's still missing two major contributions to the speed, which are both already present in our K2.0 tree. Caching is not very good solution compared of speeding up SQL queries itself..

You need 2 different threads tables in order to optimize most queries. One saves some information from the thread, like post count and last post, another saves data from every user who has contributed into the topic. I hope to get last one into K1.6 as it fixes some known bugs..

Kunena 1.6 has major improvements in terms of database usage.

If you have a large forum and want to use Kunena on it, the dev team will be very interested to work together and help. If there are any more fixes we need to make, we will do so, just need a test site/db to install 1.6 on and test the performance.

On large dbs Kunena 1.6 should be 10x faster or more than 1.5 - Is that enough for a particular use-case? Don't know, but we have some more tricks in our list that we just have not gotten to, as it was not the highest priority.

Our end goal is to meet or beat the performance of any other forum solution out there, when compared on the same HW platform with the same features enabled. Additional features will require additional resources. For example most large scale forums use very little to no SEO URLs, turning on SEO URLs will always cost a couple queries extra.

We love stars on the Joomla Extension Directory . :-)
