I was wrong about the latestx.php...that isn't the problem.

If I upgrade to 1.5.11 can I still use this template with it?

This is a difficult question to answer because I suspect that the template you're using doesn't work with K 1.5.9 anyway! And, because your template has removed the "Powered by Kunena" credit at the foot of the page, this only further compounds my diagnosis.

A question for you: did you design this template? If you didn't design this template, where did you obtain it?

I'm going to give you some advice: you don't have to upgrade Kunena if you can live with the limitations of the version that you have. Just like a doctor would say to a patient, if you're happy with your current condition then you don't need to take any medication (because you're anxious about the possible side-effects or you don't like the taste of the medicine). But the real question is: do you want to get better?

Yes, as we have written many times, you simply have to download the current [K 1.5.11] installation kit and install it without needing first to uninstall the older version. The upgrade procedure will replace the default_ex template but it will not affect any other templates that you may have installed on your site. However, as we also remind users, it's a very good idea to take a backup of your site before you install Kunena ... just in case something does go wrong with the installation procedure. B)

Will you be able to use the template that you have with K 1.5.11? I don't know. As I have mentioned before (in this topic) I think the template that you are using is responsible (to an extent) for the problems that you are already having. The only other suggestion that I would offer is for you to discuss your situation with the developer of the template that you are using and, as I also asked, I would like to know who designed it and who removed the "Powered by Kunena" link at the foot of your forum.

Thanks :)

Hi Sozzled!

Thanks again for the reply. I think I'm going to change the template, it's too much of a hassle to figure this one out. I tried a few other templates from which some did work, some didn't work on other parts, but the default_ex doesn't work. It doesn't load the categories...
I will see what I can do.

As for the template, I think I found it somewhere on this forum, I'm not sure and I thought that the Kunena link under the whole forum was the powered by link.

If I find out where I downloaded it than I'll tell you.

I tried the default_ex template too, but it didn't work with that so I tried another template and it works fine with that.

This confirmed my conclusions and the message I have been trying to get across that the problems you are having were generated by a defective template and a defective version of Kunena.

What was the other template that you found worked for you?

I tried to reproduce the problems by visiting the user's website and look at the "Recent Discussions" (Legújabb hozzászolások). I could not see how to get to a second page - perhaps you need to login?

It's important that we identify the cause of this problem - identify the name of the defective template that was obtained from Kunena.com - and warn other users about its dangers. Perhaps this website should carry a warning on the home page that states, in really large bold font, the Kunena project takes no responsibility for any third party-developed templates found at this website . But, just like we have a sticky post warning in the Support category that states There is only one endorsed and supported Kunena template ... default_ex many users seem to ignore that advice, too. It seems to be an impossible problem for us to solve. K 1.6 will, we hope, make a big difference in this area.

Yes, by all means, change template - if that works around your problem. But, as we have said on more occasions that I can remember, that's "band-aid" stuff. If you want to have a forum that you can have confidence in - if you are prepared to work through the problem - upgrade to K 1.5.11 first, use the default_ex template and, if you find that you still have a problem, report it here so that we can fix it ... not just for you but for everyone else. OK? B)

Thanks again Sozzled! The support here is still amazing :)

I'm sorry if I caused any trouble with my questions...but I just had to ask...
Yes changing the template does work for me, I will get back to you with the name of the working template as soon as I get home because my internet connection is slow where I'm right now.
I don't want to upgrade because I have discussbot which is working very well now and I'm afraid that will mess it up...so I'm going to look around for a template which looks good on the site and hopefully works.
The problem is that I have a lot of exams at the university...so the site has to wait right now...the school is on my neck to fix it but I just don't have the time...make/give somebody something for free and they just ask for more and more...but I guess you really know how that is...

I don't think that you have to stat that you don't take responsibility for third party things...because that is obvious, you didn't make them, so why should you take responsibility for it.

Thank you again...and sorry for bothering you!

Have a nice day/night/evening! :)

Thank you. You're welcome to use whatever works for you, remain at K 1.5.9 because you're anxious about the interaction K 1.5.11 might have with another third party-developed program, and that's entirely reasonable in your case.

However, I will have to move this topic from the support category because we cannot really help you on that basis. I'm looking forward to reading your update - what template you found that works for you - but, as I also said before, it would assist a lot of users to know what was the defective template that you used in the first place so that they avoid the trap you fell into.
