Nevermind. it had nothing to do with creating a menu item. thanks for a) changing my topic to something that was unrelated to the issue and b) not really offering actual help. but i figured it out.

Replied by rich on topic Re:Linking not working
You have SEO lately enabled? Go to "backend > menu > forum menu". Open the forum menu and save this again.

Important! Always create a backup before you make any changes to your website!

I have run out of room on my menu bar for the forums menu item to be located there.

That's a limitation of your Joomla template; we can't help you with that.

I have set a link in a module to the right of my page. however, for whatever reason it doesn't want to take the user to the forums. it keeps throwing up an error message

Yes, I see that. As rich has said, this is probably because of some way you have set up SEO. Please read the guide on Search engine optimization (SEO) in the Wiki. Are you using any third-party SEO tools, like sh404SEF?

After you've got the SEO matters sorted out, it's a simple matter to do the necessary Joomla menu assignment.

So, for the benefit of others in your situation, who are having the kind of problem that you had, what was the cause of your problem and how did you solve it?

Topic titles should be as descriptive as you can possibly make them, not just for benefit of the person asking the question but also for others looking for similar solutions. Everyone, in some way, has something that is "not working" or not working properly. To a large extent, that is what Kunena.com exists for. I had hoped, by changing the subject to something that sounded closer to what your problem was about, we might be able to get more help, faster and quicker to you. That was my intention; that is (I believe) the function of a good forum moderator.

I'm sorry you don't share my view. In future I won't interfere in your topics. :)
