What version of Kunena are you using? What Kunena template are you using? What Joomla template are you using?

Your problem is almost certainly unique to you and, I would guess, caused by the Joomla template that you are using. Therefore, we would be unable to duplicate the conditions that you have on your website. However, it may be possible to help you if you give us the URL of your website.

You might be interested to know that the screen you have illustrated does not exist in K 1.6.

anyway i have your latest forum version installed it 1 or 2 days ago, um the default forum template i guess - i have not done anything to it, latest version of joomla

Let me verify your situation: Kunena 1.5.9, default_ex template, Joomla 1.5.15, rhuk_milkyway Joomla template.

The symptoms you've described are unusual for a standard K 1.5.9 installation. :S
