1and1 vs php5 was created by gecho316
I am trying to install Kunena on my 1and1 Linux hosted Joomla site, but I get a message saying that my php version is not >=php5. I have searched 1and1 and the internet to try and figure out how to solve this, but the only thin I can find is to add 2 lines to my .htaccess file and upload this back to my site, which whould make everything OK with php5

The 2 lines are...
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php
which I have added to the top of the file with no #'s or anything

I have done this and it has made no difference.

Someone please help! I want to use Kunena as I know how it works and trust it, I don't want to have to find a new forum to use.

Hello,

After you have added these two lines in your .htacces file, do you have in your phpinfo if you see php 5 which is loaded.

I don't provide support by PM, because this can be useful for someone else.

Sorry, I am fairly new to all of this and don't know where my phpinfo is. I have looked in myphpadmin on 1and1, but can't see which version it is anywhere.

How do I see this?

I've just found out how to and the created my phpinfo and it still says PHP Version 4.4.9

So I'm guessing that either the edit to .htaccess either tricks 1and1 into thinking it's using php5 when it's not or the whole thing hasn't worked.

would it help if I posted the contents of the .htaccess file?

Thanks

This I have done, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

one thing that I have noticed that may be something to do with this is that when I have editted and saved the .htaccess file, it now shows as htaccess.txt

should this be saved as something else?

Thanks

I have now renamed the file to .htaccess and uploaded it, which seems to have worked.

thanks
