The Wiki article clearly states that "Die Smilies werden gespeichert in: ../components/com_kunena/template/<aktuelles template>/images/language/emoticons." So they will be in that directory: the default_gray directory.
If you had been following the forum over the last 6 months, you would have seen There is only one endorsed and supported Kunena template which means that we can't help you if you've chosen to store your smileys anywhere other than the default_ex directory. If you have now lost your default_gray template you've probably also lost your smileys, too (unless you have a backup). However, just in case you still have your default_gray template, look there and see if your smiley files are still around. Put the smileys you want to use into ../components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/language/emoticons and you should be OK again.
