here a description what I have done:

- export of 1.0.8 Kunena database (UTF8) from Joomla 1.0.15
- import the file into Joomla 1.5.6 (UTF8) where Kunena 1.0.12 was installed
- Kunena works now, all data imported successfully
- Upgrade Kunena to 1.5.6
- Kunena works, but now

- all german "Umlauts" not converted correctly

Who can help ?

You may have had a problem in data export or import. Please look that your exported file/data is still using UTF-8 and that your client uses UTF-8 when importing data.

Sometimes even if data is saved in UTF-8, client uses default encoding (ISO-8859-1) to talk with the server. I had the same issue between my own computer and old server: imported data looked ok in my local environment, but if I did the same in the server, I lost all umlauts.
