I need to do this exercize... I read some threads about it...

I run joomla 1.5.14.
It appears that all I have to do is to download the com_kunena_v1.5.5_stable_b1778_2009-08-15.zip and then run the install (which in this case means "upgrade") from within Jommla.

Then, hopefully, it will use the old FireBoard tables, and all my forum posts will be safe.

Is this true? Is this procedure valid for an upgrade from FireBoard 1.0.4 to Kunena 1.5.5?

It appears that some had som issues afterwards... I found this thread:
Kunena 1.5.5: File or image upload not possible
If I get that far, I will follow this other thread also but for now, I hope that someone can reasure me that what I am about to do is correct.

Yes, I did take a full backup, and I am ready to push the button now B)

So how do I upgrade to FB 1.0.5? Its no longer supported....

If I am to understand what I read in your link, there is a converter that I will need to download and install as well so that I will not loose my posts, catagories, etc...

Currently I am running a Fire Board forum 1.0.4 version...
Also currently, I am recieving a Database error because I removed a Duplicate field in CB for the forum settings... Little did I know it would shut my forum down... SO.. I have to now install Kuena...

i upgraded from FireBoard 1.04 to Kunena 1.0.8, and then I was able to upgrade to Kunena 1.5. I did this to follow instructions on migrating from phpbb3 and it worked. I now have the latest version of Kunena and all the information is still there.

Hello,

Ti upgrade fireboard 1.0.4 to 1.0.5, you have the firebaord doc here : downloads.joomlacode.org/frsrelease/3/1/9/31960/README.txt

Upgrading an existing installation of FireBoard to 1.0.5 is simple and easy.
We have spent considerable resources and time to fully automate the process. Upgrading
FireBoard 1.0.0 - 1.0.4 to the latest 1.0.5 version is simple process that no longer
requires you to execute any special scripts or SQL statements by hand.
Going forward all new versions of FireBoard will come with an automated upgrade process.
The upgrade process has been tested on both Joomla 1.0.15 as well as 1.5.5. If by the
time you install this package, there are newer versions of Joomla available, please see
www.BestOfJoomla.com for additional information.

There is a ONE TIME migration requirement for any prior version of FireBaord to 1.0.5.
In order to facilitate that one time migration we have released a stand alone component
com_fbconverter. It migrates the existing configuration settings of an existing
FireBoard install (versions 1.0.0 to 1.0.4) into the database before the upgrade.

Make sure you download the latest package from JoomlaCode.org:
joomlacode.org/gf/project/fireboard/frs/

Look for a package like: com_fbconverter_v1.0.5RC2_b159_2008-07-15.zip
It has the same new naming convention like all new FireBoard packages. By the time you
read this there might be a newer version and build of it out there. Get the latest.

The converter is only required if you want to preserve the existing settings of
FireBoard. All categories and posts are independent from that and do not require
the converter. Only the settings that used to be stored in fireboard_config.php
are getting translated by com_fbconverter and written into the database.

Just to be sure we mention it again: BACKUP - BACKUP - BACKUP!
