need migration/conversion advice was created by erniede
I have an older Joomla site we used FireBoard on, but we are moving to a new site, where we have installed the latest Kunena -- we want to export all the old posts in Fireboard and import them into Kunena at the new site.
What would be the best way to do this?
I am imagining we could install Kunena on the old site, and somehow import the FB posts into it there, then export from Kunena, and import into Kunena at the new site... is this the best way? Or is there a shorter route?
Thanks for any help!

What would be the best way to migrate the data? Hmmm .... tricky question. It depends on how "culturally significant" you consider the old data is. On the one hand it might be better to leave the old data (and website) where it is as an archive and abandon it; lock the discussions so that no new posts can be made and leave it there as a something people can look back on with fond memories. Perhaps.
The request you've made, transferring the data across, is more involved. In principle this is what I would suggest:
To moderators: please move this discussion to Kunena 1.0.6 – 1.0.9 and Fireboard » Installation, Upgrade and Migration category.

- On new new website, install the same version of Fireboard that you have operating on your old website.
- Export the SQL jos_fb_* tables from your old website to the new website
- Depending on what version of Fireboard you had installed, you will find information on what you need to do to convert and upgrade it to Kunena by browsing through the Archive Fireboard category. For example, read Best way to upgrade from Fireboard 1.0.4 or Upgrade Fireboard to Latest Kunena Version
- Install Kunena, uninstall Fireboard, review and create menu items as required.

You can just copy (or backup/restore) the database tables (jos_fb_*) to the new server and install Kunena. That's it. If you have J1.0 site, you also need to convert character set to UTF-8.
Just remember to copy images/fbfiles directory, too (FB1.0.2+). With older version it's located in the component directory.
