Greetings & Thanks for Kunena Forums!

We're using Kunena 1.0.8 (Had probs with CB integration) and are using CB 1.2 (Not 1.2.1) so we are wondering about the necessity to upgrade both CB and Kunena or just Kunena itself.

(1) In our instance, do we need to upgrade CB from 1.2 to 1.2.1 before Kunena upgrade?
(2) Do we need to uninstall Kunena 1.0.8 prior to installing version 1.5 final?

Though not yet online for public use, we're apprehensive about jumping right into upgrade due to all the work put into the site already. We're using Joomla 1.5.9 in Legacy mode (In order to get all the kewl extensions to work).

-Tom

PS: I know it'd be a headache to take time to do so, but it'd be great to have somewhere to put in your versions of Joomla, CB and Kunena, and then have a step-by-step for Kunena upgrades. :) Just an idea.

  1. It doesn't really matter if you upgrade Community Builder before Kunena or the other way around. You have to do them both. Until you do them both your website will be a mess and your users won't be able to use it.
  2. What do the release notes say? In order to upgrade Kunena 1.5.3 you have to uninstall whatever version of Kunena that you currently have. The same is true for Community Builder and for most Joomla extensions. In some cases, you can upgrade by copying new versions of files into the target directories; this won't work for Kunena because - from what I've read here - there's a conversion procedure built into the installation process.

1. Actually you can use Kunena 1.5.3 (and 1.0.11 when it's available) with CB 1.2, BUT integration will be very limited (and you will get warning in the backend) unless you upgrade. K1.0.10 does not work with CB 1.2 at all (white screen), so don't try it.
2. Does release notes say that you need to uninstall? If so, we need to fix it. K1.5 can be installed without removing old version first.
