What does forum prune? was created by Baze
Sorry for the noob question, but what does the prune forum option does? Does it deletes the messages or it stores them in archive or something?

I'm asking this because i'm looking for a way to reduce the size of the database (currently kunena uses over 20mb) and i'm hitting the hosting limit so i have to find a solution for it.

You know, I've never used this feature! This is a good question.

According to the information that is displayed (Components » Kunena Forum » Prune Forums) you can select one or more existing forums in order to:

... prune threads where there have not been any new posts during the number of days. This does not remove stickies or locked topics and these must be removed manually. Threads in locked topics can not be pruned

I assume the function does as it's described.

I would assume that using the function will reclaim space in your database.

As with any function that you haven't used before, you should take a backup of your website in case things don't work as expected. After making a backup you can then experiment and see the results for yourself. Would you like to share your findings with this forum? Thanks. :)

Prune deletes old messages from the database. I've used it often in my own forum (buy/sell).
Attachments can be deleted (or replaced by dummy) from elsewhere.. Usually they eat most of the disk space.

Instead of deleting old messages I would advice you to buy larger hosting plan to scale up with your site. You can get fairly large limits (1GB+) with decent prices. But before making any decision, please make sure that existing sites in that provider are fast enough with dynamic content even during the rush hour. :) Some providers just put too many sites into one server.
