Question Turning SEF on breaks my forum template.

Hi Everyone,
I have just installed kunena on my website and I wanted to turn on the SEF function in Joomla. However, whenever I turn it on, the template for the forum breaks and when I click on a category, I get a 404 error page.

I tried setting on the apache mod re-write, but it changed my menu link and took me to the old forum which is hosted under mysite.com/forum

What do I need to do to turn on the regular Joomla SEF and get it to work with Kunena? I don't want to use sh404 as it's a commercial product and I have heard it is more hassle than it's worth.

Can anyone help me get Kunena to work with the regular Joomla SEF? Thanks.

Kunena should work with Joomla SEF. Can you copy URL to the broken page(s) here? are all urls broken?

I'll try to give you the URLs soon, though our forum is fairly active so I don't want to take it down while there are users logged in. I'll wait for the right time and try it out.

By the way, like I said, if I have the mod_rewrite option on, plus SEF, my forum button links people to an old forum which is stored under "mysite"/forum instead of going to the kunena forum which is what the menu button is configured to do.

You cannot have same name for directory and menu item (sef). If you do, .htaccess will detect that directory and go there instead of Joomla. You need to rename one of them.

Thanks, Matias. That fixed my problem. It is now working with Joomla SEF. Very good.

One question. I notice that when I click on a topic, the URL lists:

"mysite.com"/component/kunena/....

Is there anyway to change "component/kunena/" to "forum"? I noticed that on this forum here (ie. kunena.com) you it lists only as forum and not as component/kunena.

Do I have to add anything to the .htaccess file? If so, what? Sorry for all the questions, I am a real newbie to this stuff. Thanks.
