Sick of spam was created by the_ai
Hey guys! I'm receiving a lot of spam through spambots. (air, jordan shoes or whatever). I'm using kunena with CB, the user registration requires to input a captcha, but spambot keep registering. (very clever things)

I receive everyday around 10spam messages. Posting is allowed only to registered users and they don't have to enter any captcha message or so.

I use version 1.5.3 - is there any security hole in this version and should I immediately update to 1.5.4?

Because Kunena, itself, has neither its own user registration module nor login module, how can this be a security vulnerability of Kunena? Moreover, since Community Builder claims to be more resistant to spambot infiltration (especially since you use some form of CAPTCHA) I wonder if it's fair to blame that component either. (I do, however, have other concerns about the reliability of CB's CAPTCHA system - from a support standpoint - which I've written about at Joomlapolis .) Basically, my question to you boils down to what are you paying for and who should you really be complaining to?

Let's accept the fact that sometimes these things occur.

There are defensive counter-measures you can install. I recommend Joomlawatch from wwww.codegravity.com . It's not 100% bot-proof but it allows you to discover where the bots are coming from, how they're getting in, and ways to plug the leaks. B)

Hello the_ai,
Please update kunena to 1.5.4 and cb to 1.2.1 . Do you still get the spam or not.

I agree with "sozzled", this should have nothing to do with Kunena. You should be using your Joomla or CB registration and working with the security addons that you have installed.

Which version of the CAPTCHA are you running. My site is still new but just yesterday setup my registration with "AlphaRegistration" as seen Here . Is this the same CAPTCHA that your using?

Hi, there is no hole in Kunena 1.5.3 that facilitates spam. Despite an upgrade is recommend, because Kunena 1.5.4 is a security release (but has nothing to do with spam).

Caterx pointed to a very important aspect: the captcha, you are using.
