Hi
Is it possible to put just one quick reply box at the bottom of the thread instead of one below each post?

Yes, it's possible, but I presume that you'd like to know how?
This idea has been discussed on several occasions at this forum (e.g. Standard (consistent) Terminology?!. Some people don't want the Quick Reply feature at all, while others don't want the fully functional Reply button with all the BBcode buttons and message editing features . It just proves that you can't please everyone.
There are ways you can remove the features of Kunena, if you're prepared to do a bit of work and modify the source code, and a search of the forum will give you some general ideas how to go about doing this. Perhaps another user has achieved this result successfully and they might be willing to share their ideas with you.

Yes I'd like to know how
I don't mind coding, it's what I do. I'm wondering if anyone did it and can share the knowledge.

Actually I just realised. I can live with the quick reply below each post, but my problem is that all quick reply boxes begin as open instead of closed when the page loads.

The Kunena Quick Reply feature is driven by Javascript. If the input areas are all open, on page load, there is some other component, some other Javascript, that's running on your website that's conflicting with the Quick Reply function. This is has been written about on many times - the "conflicting component" problem - and some of these
