Important Referrals?

Referrals? was created by joomlamanisdaman
I've been searching around this forum for a while and I've also played around with a version of Kunena on a test domain; I simply can't find anything about a referral feature. This leads me to the question: Does one exist?

Basically, what I mean is, each user would get his own unique referral link to share with his/her friends. When a new user signs up using the given referral link, the original user is credited.

It's very useful in trying to get a new community to grow since you can offer prizes for top referrers and such. This would be especially helpful to me, so please let me know.

If it doesn't exist, I'll request it in the other forum. Or if someone could provide a nice alternative (ex. plugin), that would be great.

THANKS! :laugh:

G'day, joomlamanisdaman, and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for your question. No, there isn't a feature like this implemented in Kunena. Although I've never seen this feature implemented any web-based forum that I've seen before (and I've seen or used a few hundred) and although I'm not sure if it quite fits into the forum niche, something like what you envisage might be available within the Joomla development space. Have you looked at the Joomla Extensions Directory to see if a feature like this has been developed?

Kunena does not have responsibility for handling new user registrations: Kunena automatically creates a user record when a new user registers using the Joomla user registration process (or if the Joomla user registration is assisted by some other third-party component like JomSocial or Community Builder). Because Kunena does not handle user registrations - and there are no plans to change this - I would think that it would be rather difficult (impossible?) for Kunena to implement the feature that you suggested. At present, Kunena is essentially a forum component for Joomla. Therefore, the first thing that has to change is to transition Kunena into becoming a community management and forum component. That's possibly something for the future. :)

Wow. Firstly, I just want to say thank you! sozzled, I've been browsing the forum quite a bit before joining and I must say that your posts have been unbelievably helpful!

I was reading over at the Agora forums how the community there was so much more responsive than Kunena (not an opinion of the staff, of course, but of some of the users) and man did you prove them wrong! Both of my questions were answered very, very quickly and I'm quite impressed. I'm starting to love Kunena, despite the few perks (like a "Thank you" button which I know has been planned for future updates) are missing.

VBulletin actually implements the referral system, in case you were wondering where I got the idea. When you go to your profile, it'll say something like "Invite your friends to join our community by linking them here via the following URL:" and the URL might be something like " www.mydomain.com/forum/register.php?referrerid=XXXXX "

I've checked with the extensions directory and it seems that the most viable solution would be using AlphaPlug with AlphaPoints, but from what I've read, Kunena isn't yet fully integrated with AlphaPoints, although it is on their "planned or started" list.

However, after joining their website, I still can't seem to find any referral ID in my profile. Are they using Kunena or something else? Were you able to find where your points are stored and where your ID is?

Thanks so much for all of the help!

Thank you for your reply and thank you for the compliments, too. :)

There are several things listed on UserVoice that are outdated - some things that are "planned" have already been completed and other things that were "started" have been abandoned, or the need was overtaken by other events. The reliability of UserVoice is a matter that I've discussed with the site administrators and the consensus is that, because UserVoice has not kept pace with Kunena's developments, it may be more appropriate to use a different mechanism to gauge user interest and support for Kunena's enhancements.

I know that the development team takes seriously all user feedback, no matter how that feedback is given. UserVoice is only one mechanism ... but it is currently under review.

Thank you for informing me about the vBulletin referral system. vBulletin 's claims don't surprise me: "The most powerful community software", eh? I suppose the referral idea is a good gimmick to make money and lure customers from Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress and all the other open-source CMS offerings. Who knows how the vBulletin referral system works; that's not for me to speculate upon.

I haven't used it, but Kunena has some level of integration with AlphaUserPoints. Perhaps someone else can provide more information.

Yes, Kunena and AlphaUserPoints has a small-scale integration (avatar, general points and profile...)

This what joomlamanisdaman ask is in AlphaUserPoints by default if you just enable it (own invite system + integration possibility with OpenInviter) ;)

Basically, what I mean is, each user would get his own unique referral link to share with his/her friends. When a new user signs up using the given referral link, the original user is credited.

So maybe you should try AlphaUserPoints :) Test and learn how to use it first. You can also find it in JED

Here is one great review about it: www.alphaplug.com/index.php/forum.html?f...tid=14&id=9212#10595

Thanks so much for your help guys! You're incredibly helpful and I can't tell you how much I appreciate it!

AlphaUserPoints is really cool and I'm starting to play around with it now. I wish there was more integration with Kunena though... For example, it would be nice if the users can see their referral links when they click on their profile. Right now, I don't really know where I can put that information...

Also, do you know the code to enable points being shown in the posts? (Kunena has a setting to enable it in the profile, but not the posts themselves...)

Any help would be truly appreciated!!! :)

If you don't see the points in post view then the reason is: you use some old Kunena Team template, your own custom template or some another author template.

Since Kunena 1.5.7 the new AlphaUserPoints integration code is included in Kunena default_ex template and it's work very fine. It's show points in post view and profile... and also AUP API code is there so you can use AUP pre installed rules for Kunena (give points when user start topic and user answer to topic).

So I'm pretty sure that you don't use default_ex template (recommended) and template (your own custom or some another author) what you use is not up to date!

Mortti

btw... there is little FAQ what I wrote one day about basic integration when use only AUP profile... How do I make a basic AlphaUserPoints and Kunena integration?

Thanks Mortti!

I was able to find the necessary code after examining several different documents. For those of you looking to add it in your own template, do the following:

In the message.php file, find this code:
Code:
<?php if (isset($myGraph)) { $myGraph->BarGraphHoriz(); } ?>

Or something similar to that. Then, add this part immediately after it:

Code:
<?php // Start Integration UserPoints // **************************** $myGraph2->BarGraphHoriz(); // End Integration UserPoints // **************************** ?>

After that, in the view.php file, add:
Code:
// Start Integration UserPoints // **************************** //Get the max# of points for any one user $kunena_db->setQuery("SELECT max(points) from #__alpha_userpoints"); $maxPoints = $kunena_db->loadResult(); $kunena_db->setQuery("SELECT points from #__alpha_userpoints WHERE `userid`='".$fmessage->userid."'"); $numPoints = $kunena_db->loadResult(); $myGraph2 = new phpGraph; $myGraph2->AddValue("Points:", $numPoints); $myGraph2->SetRowSortMode(0); $myGraph2->SetBarImg(KUNENA_URLGRAPHPATH . "col" . $fbConfig->statscolor . "m.png"); $myGraph2->SetBarImg2(KUNENA_URLEMOTIONSPATH . "graph.gif"); $myGraph2->SetMaxVal($maxPoints); $myGraph2->SetShowCountsMode(2); $myGraph2->SetBarWidth(4); //height of the bar $myGraph2->SetBorderColor("#333333"); $myGraph2->SetBarBorderWidth(0); $myGraph2->SetGraphWidth(64); //should match column width in the <TD> above -5 pixels $useGraph = 1; // End Integration UserPoints // ****************************

Before something like this:
Code:
//karma points and buttons if ($fbConfig->showkarma && $userinfo->userid != '0') { $karmaPoints = $userinfo->karma; $karmaPoints = (int)$karmaPoints; $msg_karma = "<strong>" . _KARMA . ":</strong> $karmaPoints"; if ($kunena_my->id != '0' && $kunena_my->id != $userinfo->userid) { $msg_karmaminus = CKunenaLink::GetKarmaLink('decrease', $catid, $fmessage->id, $userinfo->userid, '<img src="'.(isset($fbIcons['karmaminus'])?(KUNENA_URLICONSPATH . $fbIcons['karmaminus']):(KUNENA_URLEMOTIONSPATH . "karmaminus.gif")).'" alt="Karma-" border="0" title="' . _KARMA_SMITE . '" align="middle" />' ); $msg_karmaplus = CKunenaLink::GetKarmaLink('increase', $catid, $fmessage->id, $userinfo->userid, '<img src="'.(isset($fbIcons['karmaplus'])?(KUNENA_URLICONSPATH . $fbIcons['karmaplus']):(KUNENA_URLEMOTIONSPATH . "karmaplus.gif")).'" alt="Karma+" border="0" title="' . _KARMA_APPLAUD . '" align="middle" />' ); } }
