Hi

On my test site I have uninstalled fireboard, and installed Kunena - all went through ok

Now the SEF problem occurs - I can see the forum with SEF off

/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=33

But with SEF on

/index.php/resources/forum - gives a blank page, no html source to look - nothing.

This is just the garden variety Joomla SEF function, nothing added.

Can anyone please assist?

PHP Version: 5.2.6-1+lenny3
Database Version: 5.0.51a-24-log
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.5.10
Browser - Firefox latest

fixed it by doing this (although is makes little sense!)

The forum was set to registered users only

I turned this off, turned sef on and tried again

It worked!

Then I went into the Kunena config, and again set it to registered users only - all working ok now!

Weird!

arrrrgg!

SO now it is working well on the test site, I backup the live site and apply the changes. The set up are clones - only difference is that the test set up is under a folder, and the live site under the root. The databases are also clones.

BUT exactly the same thing happens - wont work at all with sef on

I have gone through the steps I had tried on the test site - can't get it to work.

Anyone have any idea what could cause the sef working/not working issue?

Note - yes the livesite var is ok and set correctly in the configuration.php, as are all the other config settings.

Thanks for that

I can't get the Apache mod_rewrite to work with any settings in the .htaccess, and I'm waiting on the .htaccess settings from the ISP.

I have never had success with other site using Apache mod_rewrite, but this site is on a Linux server. On the other hosts I use, the Apache mod_rewrite not recommended.

It is possible that on this server, the configuration of HTTPD.CONF file, has the global rules that will set the mod_rewrite. I have asked for clarification! Time will tell.

Good to hear that you have a fairly good handle on the .htaccess difficulties. I use the standard file that came with Joomla and have had no problems with my webhost. Even so, if your hosting service does things differently, and you can't get your site working with SEO/SEF settings, you may have to abandon the attempt unless your ISP can give you the specific fix. It's beyond my ability to help you further, I think. Time, indeed, may be the telling factor.

Good luck. :)
