Introduction:

The Kunena team is thrilled to announce the second public beta release of Kunena 6.0, a native Joomla extension for Joomla 4.x. This is a development release and should be only be used for testing; this version is not recommended for live websites at this stage.

The purpose of this release is to encourage testing by downloading, installing and identifying any problems or shortcomings that people may discover. K 6.0.0 B2 is stable and we are aware that people will discover defects. We encourage you to use the forum to report defects, as soon as they are discovered, so that the development team can work through the problems before the release of K 6.0 as a stable product. Reporting defects does not mean that the problems can or will be fixed. The Kunena team is looking forward to hearing your feedback on how well we have achieved our design goals.

Kunena 6.0 has been designed to work on Joomla! 4.0, the requirements are the followings :
  • Php 7.3.5 (updated to Php 7.3.5 in Beta2 instead of Php 7.2.5 in Beta1, Php 7.2.x serie is in EOL)
  • MySQL 5.6.0
  • Bootstrap 5.x

The work done in Kunena 6.0 is mostly to update the code base:

  • Convert all the queries to use Joomla! Database which allow them to be agnostic, it remains couple of queries which need to be converted
  • The directory structure of the component follow Joomla! 4.0 way
  • Convert all the files in frontend and backend to be namespaced
  • Remove most of the deprecated code
  • A new template is present nammed Aurelia which works on Bootstrap 5

New features:

Support of Joomla! email templates

Private messages has been integrated (need to be intregated with CKeditor)

The changes done since the release of the beta 1 are mostly bug fixes.

Hello Kunena,
I have installed Kunena 6.0.0-BETA4-GIT at my own risk. Where on this forum can I leave feedback about my experiences using it? Just so to help further development!

Installing the most recent nightly build was much more successful. :)  It looks like I need to now assign the layout positions used by the default Cassiopeia template. Thanks for the help.

Hello,

It seems that it's missing the column sampleData on your table #__kunena_version, you can try with the next nightly when it will available on the bottom of this page : www.kunena.org/download

At your own risk, delete the table #__kunena_version and import it from a clean install of Kunena 6.0

I have tried this procedure:
  1. Update Joomla 3.9 to 4.0 - Goes well and newly updated site works well except for Kunena
  2. Install Kunena 6 beta 2
  3. Immediately front end is unreachable and backend displays error "missing column"
  4. Only way to recover is to install most recent Akeeba backup and start again.
  5. I can't remove existing Kunena because I will lose all my messages and history
Any solutions?

If you try now with the lastest nightly build, you don't have anymore the error "Custom install failure" when you have the tables from K5.2 presents in the database

it works with the new stable 4 too?

You mean an upgrade from K.5 to K.6? In principle, it should work, but that is not the case at the moment. This bug must be fixed first.

Hello,

Thanks for the report, if you want to test a nightly build of Kunena 6.0 you need to uninstall first the beta 2
