Hi, folks! Scroll down for configuration details.

First and foremost, I would like express my immense appreciation towards the developers of Kunena. This plugin is truly wonderful, as it constantly makes my site and userbase grow. It seems to be the perfect forum solution for Joomla! :)

However, I seem to have run into a bit of a problem some two days ago (I think). I'm not sure if the issue started to appear after recently updating Kunena to v2.0.4, but I'm pretty much certain it did not occur a week ago, back when the site was in testing (Kunena version 2.0.3 back then).

It goes like this: no matter what the user type (plain registered member or admin such as myself), creating a new topic or posting a reply results in the said user suddenly not being able to see or access menus and sections that are set above "Public" permissions, namely those that are set to "Registered". The problem goes away if the user logs out and then logs back in.

As I'm not really your average skilled coder, neither the most proficient Joomla user, both the cause and solution to this issue elude me. I do believe it has to do with permissions - something which Joomla seems to err about every now and then -, but I've literally dug up half the internet in an attempt to find a similar issue and a resolve, with no success whatsoever.

I do find it important to mention that my webhost is currently running PHP 5.2.17, which seems to be outdated by Kunena 2.0.4 standards. I did politely ask if they could upgrade, but it may take a while for them to reply.

My site's frontend is in Romanian (I haven't done that great a job of making it multi-lingual so far, but I will look into it in the near future), I'll be happy to translate any fuzzy bits should it prove necessary.

Thanks in advance for any insight you might have on this matter!

Hi,

you have 3 menu items that point to Kunena

495 Forum mainmenu Itemid=567 kunena-2013-01-31
496 Forum top view=home&defaultmenu=437 forumuri
567 Forum kunenamenu view=home&defaultmenu=569 forum

You should delete menu item in top position (id 496) and move alias menu item (495) in this position

Hope this helps

Hi, thanks for your input! :)

I did what you suggested: deleted all the other menu items pointing towards the forum (as I only needed one link towards my forum, not a million of them) and only kept the Kunena Menu items.

There are now no other aliases or menu items pointing towards the forum except those created by the Kunena installation by default. Moved the entire Kunena Menu to display on the top menu. Granted, that solved a separate issue (highlighting the "Forum" menu item to show the user's current location in the website), but after posting a test reply on a subforum, the main problem appeared again.

"Registered"-level items and menus still seem to disappear and become off-limits after posting in the forum. Still needs logout and login to temporarily correct the problem and make those items reappear to registered users.

Thank you for your help! However, I'm still at a loss.

Do pardon for double-posting! Just a quick update on the matter.

For the moment, in order to keep everybody on my site satisfied and - to some degree - unaware of the issue, I decided to make all those menus and functions that were set for Registered view to Public. It might be noteworthy to point out that the member list (Community Builder) was also unviewable until I set it to Public, meaning that the forum issue also affects CB, not only Joomla.

However, I consider this to be a (very) temporary solution. The above-mentioned configuration details still apply in order to bugtrack towards a solution, as I'll revert to those settings as soon as a resolve becomes available.

Again, thanks in advance and I appreciate any help that you can provide on this matter! :)

Any news on the issue?

Given the immense number of views that this thread has received during its first day of existence, I'm guessing that I can't be the only one facing (variations of) this problem.

Problem persists.

Also interferes with Phoca Download's access rights: after posting in the forum, registered users are told (if they decide to visit the Phoca Download front-end section afterwards) that they cannot upload a file, nor can they vote for a file's rating, as if they were guests and nothing more. Logging out and back in solves the problem temporarily, id est until the user posts something new in the forum.

Any ideas? Or hints, at least?
