Question cssjscompress and kunena

Hello,

Has anyone been able to test out cssjscompress with kunena and have some minor problems attaching files?

Hmmm... I seem to be able to attach the file into the post but not "insert" them into the post... must be a script issue...

There are a number of these Javascript/CSS file "optimiser" products available and there is no compelling need to use such products because they don't significantly improve overall performance. Some website administrators feel inclined to use these products because they also add a level of file obfuscation to the webpage (and thus there's an implied added level of security in doing this) but, in practice, you have to remove the feature whenever you're experimenting with different CSS designs, anyway.

We've experimented with a Javascript/CSS file optimiser/obfuscation tool here, at www.kunena.org , a while ago and although it improved page load times (by a hundred milliseconds or thereabouts) ultimately the usability problems outweighed the expected benefits. In the end we found that the product we were using was causing more problems than we could tolerate and it was removed.

We have not found a Javascript/CSS compressor for Joomla that works and does not impact components like Kunena under production conditions.

On my sites I use JCH Optimize. It works perfectly with Kunena. extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-ma...te-performance/12088

On kunena.org gzip-compression works too. And it gives reduction of load time of pages. sozzled, you agree?
This plug-in compresses css and js files too.

First of to sozzled... I like your rational way of thinking. Performance may not be noticeable but I do like to have some kind of plugin to stand out from the rest.
In addition, the whole obfuscation issue could be helpful although I never though I'd need one.

Chaoshead, thanks. You're right... I just tested out JCH optimizer and wow... it works flawlessly with kunena... I hope the kunena staff would credit it for that.

Most importantly, I would also like to thank you for taking the time to conduct a test, take screen shots, and post your results so we can all see the differences. I thought the last attachment of showing your parameters of the plugin was an extra sugar on top! Thank you and highly appreciate the efforts.

It was JCH Optimize that was used here at www.kunena.org a little while ago and we had to remove the product because it did not work flawlessly with the website. We had to remove it because it prevented one very important feature working: the JomSocial PM feature.

Therefore, if you are not using the JomSocial PM feature on your website then there would probably not be any reason why you could not use JCH Optimize. I can't comment about whether JCH Optimize affects Kunena.

However, there may also be other reasons why you need to carefully consider if JCH Optimize is appropriate to your circmstances. In the case of www.kunena.org , the decision was taken to remove the software because the problems it caused outweighed the benefits that it realised.

I can confirm this on two other sites. I tested out this plug-in and it jumbled my CSS and caused problems. It's not reliably caching the concatenated CSS file.
