Unable to remove the reply option in the forum as it also removes the ability to post discussion points was created by Robbie8
I'm using the 2.0.1 versions of the Discuss plugin and the Forum. I have a problem which I am hoping you can help with.
I've created a Forum Category and an Article Category and I am able to log in as a registered user and post via the discuss option accordingly and it shows in the Forum fine.
I dont want my users to be able to reply to or edit the articles in the Forum once they have been posted in the discussion option.
So I have set the I have set the Users able to post to registered and users allowed to reply to noone. This works great in the forum, but the option to post in the discuss option is no longer available - it just shows the entries already posted.
The debug information from the Discuss plugin shows
[KunenaDiscuss debug: Constructor called in com_content ]
[KunenaDiscuss debug: onPrepareContent.Allow: Category 85 is in the category map using Kunena category 6 ]
[KunenaDiscuss debug: onPrepareContent: we are in front page. ]
[KunenaDiscuss debug: onPrepareContent: Article 84 ]
[KunenaDiscuss debug: onPrepareContent: Custom Topics disabled ]
[KunenaDiscuss debug: showPlugin: Loading Stored Topic 83 ]
[KunenaDiscuss debug: showTopic: Rendering discussion ]
[KunenaDiscuss debug: onAfterDisplayContent: Returning content for article 84 ]
I would appreciate advice please
Rob

The whole point about using the Kunena Discuss plugin is to be able to reply using the forum as the repository for those replies. If you only want an article commenting system (without articles appearing in your forum and, therefore, the ability for your users to use the forum interface to comment) then you could use a different Joomla plugin for article commenting - there are quite a few of those around.
If you change the Kunena category options so that registered users cannot reply, on the forum, then this will also mean that your users cannot comment using the Kunena Discuss "reply form" either. It may be possible to tailor a custom solution for your needs but that's not how the free Kunena Discuss plugin was designed. Would you be interested in a special custom solution available as a purchasable option?

I have looked at all the other discussion extensions, but I love the fact that the discussion points can be added on a page, but stored in the Forum for storage and review - which is excellent. I am using the facility as a "Caption Competition" which can add captions on the page but also put them in the forum. This can be set for a fixed period (monthly), but still available for historical view / not update.
There was another plugin from another person called Write Control for Kunena ( extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extensi...rum-extensions/19275 ) that did do exactly what I wanted when I had installed and used Kunena 1.7.2, but unfortunately it hasn't been built for Kunena 2.0.1 (probably because of the extra access options that have been added in the product (well almost).
I do have three options - to revert to Kunena 1.7.2 and use this option with Write Control, to accept that reply / edit exists in the forum or to select the custom option.
I may be interested - what kind of costs are you talking about?

I don't have any estimate of costs for you; that's not my department.
Most of the functions delivered by the third-party WCK plugin for K 1.7.2 have already been subsumed by changes delivered in K 2.0 but, if something worked for you in a particular way in K 1.7.2 using that plugin that it could be good news for this situation. I cannot say more because I have not tried things that way.
Generally-speaking, you control who can create new topics, reply to topics, etc. within the forum by using the Kunena Category Manager. However, it would be a reasonable conclusion to draw that, however you define how your forum works also governs how and who can use the Kunena Discuss "reply form", too.

Does that mean that there may be a way for me to define the category accesses which could give me the facility I want, possibly setting the Secondary Group access to Registered - could that help?
