Question New Installation Help with Community Builder

Hello All,

I am confused.

I have been told that Kunena is the best forum for integration with Joomla via Community Builder. However I am confused with how to install and configure Community Builder to make it all work.

Do I install the CB Plugin for Kunena first or the Forum First then the CB Plugin in after?

Is there any step by step instructions for installing Kunena and the CB Pluging to get it all working for a beginner?

Install Kunena 1.6 first - then any plugins - make sure they are 1.6 plugins.

There is also a hotfix for Community Builder 1.2.3:

Before dealing with any plugins I would recommend you just install Kunena and CB. Once Kunena is installed play around with it and see how the out of the box integration works for you.

There seem to be a few plugins there that link to Community Builder, what is the best / recommended to use?

I need it all linked as I use ACYMailing, so when people register with Community Builder, they signup to the Mailing List with ACYMailing, and i want them to automatically sign up with Kunena.

Also, when people return to the site, and they sign in with CB, it want them automatically signed in with Kunena.

Is that possible?

That all comes out of the box - not need for a plugin.

Just tell Kunena to be integrated with Community builder for its various functions. (backend - config - integration)

Just another quick question, well two actually

1) Can I make a Forum with Child Forums, but make the original Forum READ ONLY, as in NO Posts can be made?

Eg, this is for a Firefighters Association site.

So first Forum is "Regional Issues" But NO ONE can create posts in Regional Issues. When they click on Regional Issues, they then have to select their Region, eg; Far North, South Coast, South West etc...

Also, Can there be Private Forums for the Moderators Only, where only Moderators can view their own forum, make and reply to posts, but only Mods can view them?

Yes and yes.

1.) Use the category manager and make some readonly

2.) Make your moderators Authors in Joomla and setup a category with access rights of min Author. Then you can color code the messages from that category e.g. -red (in the category css suffix) and whenever you look into the forums (and other moderators) and posts from that category will have a red background in the recent topics view.

Makes it very visual that a particular thread is a moderation only thread.
