Important note: Go to the Kunena Dashboard after an upgrade so that the Kunena database tables are also updated. This is particularly necessary for major version jumps so that the table changes are adapted.
Important Updated Kunena, it deleted the template in use, now forum is unreadable, help!

How do i fix the 1.5.3 template to run with the current version of Kunena? Or where can i find a dark template that IS compatible?
Please help me get this thing readable!

1.) Read the readme! docs.kunena.com/index.php/Kunena_1.6.0rc3_Read_Me
It states abundantly clear that Kunena 1.5 templates are no longer supported due to the structural changes in Kunena. The template system has been rewritten to allow true templates.
2.) Always make a backup. That backup you might want to consider restoring your old version from
3.) Never test on a live site. Use a test site to test complex operations like a major upgrade from an out dated 1.5.3 release to the latest.
4.) Always make a backup. See the JED for various backup solutions that give you one click backups of your site.

i've been trying to use the Q&D template. It helped a little bit but i can't see which lines control background color of the subheaders, the post background colors and the alternating colors listing threads.
Is there a guide that says what controls what in the template?
i'll keep fiddling with it.

Is the problem site a live production site? Is there a backup for it? Is there a test site that mirrors the situation of the problem site? Was the K 1.6 upgrade performed first on a test site before trying the same thing on the live production site? Can we see the configuration report of the problem site, please, in order to see what version of Kunena is involved.
Your help in providing us with this information will help us to help you faster, better.

The problem is on the live site. There is no test site, not sure that my host will facilitate a test site. i would have to build the entire site twice and make every change twice. There's nowhere to test at the moment. It's too late for that. There might be a restore function but then i would lose data and the problem would come right back as soon as upgrade again. Is there an echo in here? The problem is caused by the change in how templates work in 1.6. It wouldn't be a problem if i could find out how to edit the color of the text fields and text, or if i could find a 1.6 compatible template with a dark color scheme.
The advice was good, but of no help to my situation which i pointed out in my second post. i asked for the help i wanted... fixing the template so that the text was legible.
The version involved is the /current version/ which i stated my original post... the version that appears on this site's main page, 1.6.0 rc 3. i'll save us both some time and pretend that you've lectured me on using the RC.
i will look into establishing a backup system that will allow me to rebuild the site quickly. But that will not change the color of the text fields. So it appears that i must either fix the template i have, or go to the old version of Kunena (and lose three days of data).
i'm not asking for a lecture on best practices, if that's what i wanted i would have asked for that. i am asking for help with the new templating system so my users can read posts in Kunena. i'm stuck with 1.6.0 rc 3. From now on i'll be sure to test things before going live. i've been sufficiently chastised. So can we move on?
Here's what i have done with the Q&D template so far:
The last bit turned the text black and made the site legible. So it's no longer a crisis, but i'd like for the text to be white and the text fields to be black or dark grey to match the rest of the site.
In my second post in this thread i asked for a guide that would explain what .kwhatever changes what. Specifically, i'd like to know how to change the fields colors. Is there such a guide? What is the CSS bit that controls the field colors?
If you can stop lecturing me about things i can't change for the moment, i will calm down. Try answering the questions i'm actually asking instead of going on tangents about backups and test sites. If your house was on fire, would you want the firemen to tell you about fire safety or to make your house stop burning?

Nihil,
I have no respect for rude behavior from somebody that attacks anybody who tries to help. You are hacking a site ignoring all common best practices. I suggest you rethink your approach here or we have no choice but to suspend your account for rude behavior.
One last try to help here:
If you would like to see the particular css class of any element you would like to change, I suggest you open your site in Firefox with the latest Firebug installed. It will allow you to browse the entire page and click on anything you would like to change and see exactly what the element name, element id and class names are for that element. You can even make changes on the fly to see how it would look like with that change.
Firebug is another best practice that has been adopted by most site admins for exactly that reason.
