The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 7.0.4 [K 7.0.4] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 5.4.x/6.0.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 / K 6.3 / K 6.4 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 7.0

Topics that are moved into this category are generally considered to be closed. Users may want to add additional information but these topics should not be resurrected in order to discuss new problems or unrelated matters.

Every time I create a new topic it is deleted because "the category is locked". Could you please make the default category for adding new topics a category that is actually allows new topics?

Hello,

It's not clear what you are asking, please rephrase.

I don't provide support by PM, because this can be useful for someone else.

Every time I go to create a new topic in these forums, the topic category that the new topic window opens is "Official Announcememtns and News About Kunena". But that topic is locked, and when you click submit, the message I just typed out is deleted.

This is happening to people all the time, all day every day people are typing out messages to submit to these forums, and then their message gets deleted...That's not a very nice experience for a user to have.

Yes I know, I have to remember to choose the correct forum I want to post in. But I am an individual with normal intelligence, and I post on different forums regularly, and I have yet to remember this with these forums (I probably will now).

I"ve been posting in many forums over the years, but this has never happened to me before. Why not set it up so that it is friendly to the user.

I understand now what Craig is talking about. I found several of my users was frustrated not be able to post and getting a message "Error -post-: Category has been locked." and message wiped out after submitting.

This is due to the fact I had Announcements & Notices as the top category. I did not give it a second thought when I had posted in forums but I understand what is need to post a message but a person that does not normally post would give up or think they have done something wrong.

Problem: User comes to site logs in as go to the Index or Recent Topics and clicks on New Topic, they write a message and then click submit and get the error

Fix or solution: A default category(for posting) is what is need.

Temporary fix: Move General topics category to the top of the Category Manager listing.

Third idea: Give a warning to the user they are in the wrong category.

Good question, even if it is not necessarily a support issue that affects your website. Perhaps what we should do is list only those categories that you (as a registered user) can post into.

The issue arises here - at this website - because the first category in the list (Official Announcements and News about Kunena) is locked. On one level, it's a good thing that the category is locked because otherwise people would be lazy and not think to change the category to something more appropriate. Even though it can be a nuisance for people to discover, after they've pressed the Submit button, that their work is "lost" and they need to be more careful next time around, it does draw people's attention to making sure they choose an appropriate category before they start posting indiscriminately.

If, for example, Official Announcements and News about Kunena then most new topics would be posted into this category and, for a self-help forum like www.kunena.org , this would not be very helpful to the moderators who are trying to help people or to other users who may be looking for answers.

As far as other forums are concerned, if you are happy for your users to post nearly everything in the first-listed category, the New Topic button may be useful to you. On the other hand, the New Topic button does not actually assist in a forum that has categories that are meant to be used in a very specific manner. In the case of www.kunena.org , it may actually be better if the New Topic tab did not appear at all! I will have to leave that decision for someone else to make. Perhaps we should start a new topic, or run a poll: "Should K.org have a New Topic tab?"
