Question J1.6/K1.6.3 Profile settings not syncing/can't change

I've just put up a new J1.6 site, and installed Kunena 1.6.3. I'm having problems with profile settings.

Specifically, I've installed the JCK editor, and I'm trying to change my default editor. I can edit my profile either from the main page, or from the forums -- though I get different profile screens for each. From the mainpage I change my default editor, save, and the changes stick. If I then click on Submit an Article, I'm in JCK.

Then from the forums, if I click username, Edit, my default editor is still "default", not JCK, and if I try to change it, the change doesn't stick. More generally, no changes under Global Settings stick, though other settings do.

Is there a fix for this?

We are aware of some problems involving auto-synchronising users and K 2.0 (which is currently being developed) will improve in this area. You may be interested in an idea that we put forward in another topic: www.kunena.org/forum/168-k-16-support/82...it=10&start=10#82575

You should know that this idea is not endorsed, nor supported by, the Kunena project for K 1.6.3. I understand that some improvements have been made in this area with K 1.6.4 but I can't recall what, specifically, has been done.

The JCK editor has no effect nor involvement with Kunena. JCK editor is for Joomla articles. I have nothing more to add.

I'm not quite sure what that means. In my Kunena profile settings (it's an admin account) I can choose JCK as my default editor; doesn't that mean I should be able to use JCK as my forum editor?

However, I'm really dealing with two separate issues that seemed to cross paths right at this point. The first is I have a user who has requested I change the editor's default font settings; he finds the default font size too small. When I couldn't find a setting anywhere for that, I installed JCK to see if it had that option. When I tried setting JCK as Joomla's default editor, that's when I noticed this issue.

More generally, I don't seem to be able to save changes to any of the Global Settings options in my Kunena profile. Everything else changes fine, but Global Settings always reset back to defaults. I *can* set my default editor in my front-end profile, but that change doesn't propogate back to my Kunena profile.

I'm not stuck on JCK at all; it was just the immediate cause of the more general issue I seem to be having.

Yes, this is a known problem with Joomla 1.6. I suggest that you wait for K 1.6.4 which may improve this situation for you.

Hmm... I seem to have tread on a sore spot somehow, and I don't understand why. I am not asking how to use JCE (or any other) editor with Kunena. Kunena's editor is just fine. But can you at least tell me what the Editor setting does do? What's the point of giving the appearance of being able to select an alternate editor if Kunena has no intention of supporting that?

What I do want to know is whether the editor's default font/textsize can be changed. Some of my users find the current setting too small.

You did not tread on some delicate issue. I am merely stating certain facts.

JCK Editor is for editing Joomla articles; that's a fact.

If I knew why you can change the frontend editor setting in the Kunena user profiles I would have answered differently. The fact that you may be able to change the frontend editor setting within the Kunena user profile does not alter the fact that the JCK editor (or any other WYSIWYG editor) has nothing to do with Kunena. I leave it to you to accept that you and your users can change their choice of WYSIWYG editor as a bonus feature even though it this setting does not effect on how you or they use Kunena. I really don't have anything more to say on the subject.
