MooTools Upgrade issue. was created by AndreiP
Hi,
New Kunena user here. I just installed it on my -not yet online- website, and I ran into a problem. When I fist test drived this sweet forum, I got a notification, that I should enable the Mootools Upgrade Plugin. No harm there. Enabled it, and got to work on other stuff.
After enabling the plugin I saw that it had broken a module (Tab Module) that used mootools.
Went back and disabled the plugin. The module worked fine, but when I tried to edit my forum profile the tabs there didn't work.
Is there any way around this? Don't know, maybe make the forum to work without the plugin..
Fast help is really appreciated.
Thanks,
Andrei

"Tab module"? Could you, perhaps, be referring to the Kunena menu tabs at the top of the forum page (the items that read Index, Recent Topics, New Topic ... etc.)?

Hi Sozzled,
By tab module I mean a module that uses mootools to slide content between tabs. It's independent of Kunena, and that doesn't work if I enable Mootools Upgrade plugin. If I disable it, the tabs from Profile Edit in the forums don't work.
Thanks,
Andrei

Please read
Mootools 1.2.4
. Who manufactured this "tab" module"? When was last updated? Have you contacted the "tab module" manufacturer about an update that is compatible with the latest version of Joomla?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. The module is called JAtabs, and it's provided to you when you buy JaTeline template.
Support there over this issue is slim. Some Kunena users had problems with JA templates/modules, and almost none have been solved.
I don't know where Kunena needs MooTools, but I was thinking of modifying the pages, stop the BBCodes and stuff. (or downgrade, which I don't know if it's possible)
The thing is, I thought there was a way of making K1.6 use MooTools 1.1
I don't plan on upgrading to J!1.6 stable when it gets out, so that won't be a problem. I'm almost ready to publish my site, so I don't wish to uninstall, reinstall an older version of the forum just to overcome this issue.
If there's no other way around this, I will do that, but I just want to be sure.
So, is there?
Thanks,
Andrei

You've asked some very good questions and I wish I had some very good answers for you.
It's not our business to comment on the quality of support offered by other websites. If other developers don't "get the message" clearly enough (because their users ask why aren't they keeping abreast of the current development trends in Joomla) then, I think we'll all agree, they'll start losing customers.
When the development team looked into the question of whether or not to remain outside the loop of Joomla, it didn't take much time to make the decision that to do this would be folly. To remain static - to stay behind with a dependence on outdated, clunky, buggy, non-maintained programming tools (like Mootools 1.1) - would be to defeat the whole purpose. The development team therefore took the decision to remove as much as possible that was tailor-made for Kunena and, instead, to leverage the mainstream (which we now call Mootools 1.2.4). Even Mootools 1.2.4 will soon become obsolete and will be replaced. I understand that there is a Mootools 1.3 in the works. Therefore, we can probably expect that these newer tools will make their way into the Joomla core and, by inference, they will be utilised by Kunena.

This question is answered in part in the article Mootools 1.2.4 . It's not easy to comprehensively cover every use of Javascript within a product as big as Kunena, so I hope you'll make some allowances for my brief reply on the matter. For most people, knowing were Mootools is used does not cause and issue (and most people are probably not even interested), as long as everything works as well for them as it does here at www.kunena.org .I don't know where Kunena needs MooTools ...
