On my testserver I tried an upgrade from 1.5.9 to 1.6

A lot of posts appear to be missing, not only recent but also older ones? Any ideas how to solve this problem?

I just upgraded from K 1.5.9 -> K 1.6 beta 2 (b 3133).

There were some issues with the beta 1 installer that have since been fixed. I've even seen recently that someone was able to upgrade from Fireboard 1.0.5 RC 2 directly to K 1.6 using the new installer.

As people should know, K 1.6 is still not fully stable and changes are occurring, behind the scenes, every day. This is another reason why we urge caution to those who are considering K 1.6 for their production websites! This is not a decision anyone should take lightly.

For the future, we should not have these kinds of you-need-to-upgrade-to-this-before-you-upgrade-to-K 1.6 issues. People should be able to have confidence that they use the one installation process and it does everything for them.

But I would also like to make another quick observation about just how good is the Kunena installation process, compared with most other Joomla extensions that I have used. Most other Joomla extensions require that you uninstall them before you install any upgrades. Most other Joomla extensions overwrite any previously-stored settings (or custom changes) that you may have used. Most other Joomla extensions involve a lot of manual procedures, desk checking, reading through long, and highly-detailed installation guides.

I can't remember the last time I read a Kunena installation guide. You just run the installer and that's about all there is to it. But, as every responsible site manager knows, it's always an essential task before you upgrade any software ... make sure you have a reliable backup before you start! B)

I've tested upgrading from clean installs of FB1.0.0 - FB1.0.5RC2 and migration works from all of them -- now with your configuration. So there is no need to use conversion tools or anything anymore (it was only 10 lines of code). :) There are still some missing bits in the installer, but it's slowly detecting and solving more and more issues that users may have.

Kunena 1.6 beta2 should be very stable, well, if you do not run into issues during data migration. But even in that case, it allows you to go back to the old version and it contains some tools to detect issues in the older installation.
