Kunena 6.3.0 released

The Kunena team has announce the arrival of Kunena 6.3.0 [K 6.3.0] in stable which is now available for download as a native Joomla extension for J! 4.4.x/5.0.x/5.1.x. This version addresses most of the issues that were discovered in K 6.2 and issues discovered during the last development stages of K 6.3

In these early days of Kunena 1.6 is is very important, it is critical to the success of this project, that a few simple guidelines are followed by all testers. Failure to observe a few simple rules may add avoidable delay in getting K 1.6 released as a stable product.

In order for the developers to understand what, specifically, are the problems that testers encounter, they need to know specifics.

We assume that testers will be using the simplest, most basic Joomla installations on their test sites. If you are not using the simplest, most basic Joomla installation on your test site, you are not helping yourselves and you are not helping the developers.

Experienced users of these forums would be aware over 90% of all problems that users encounter have nothing to do with Kunena. User problems are, in the most part, unique and they're caused by, or result from, the combination of server platform, mixture of site software components, Joomla and any optional extensions of Joomla that the user has installed. It is important for Kunena to work with as many different platforms as possible - that's the next stage in the plan - but we have to wait until we are in a beta testing phase before we can address those other matters. In the immediate timeframe it's necessary to establish that Kunena core functionality operates within a common test environment.

The following is a list of my recommendations for that test environment:
  1. Joomla 1.5.18 as the absolute minumum running in "native" mode (i.e. the System - Legacy plugin is disabled)
  2. One of the three standard Joomla site templates: rhuk_milkyway, JA_Purity or Beez
  3. Kunena (obviously)
  4. JoomlaPack 2.4.1 (or its successor Akeeba Backup - even though 3.0 is still in alpha)
In addition to this software mix, you may want to install JomSocial, Community Builder, uddeIM and/or AlphaUserPoints. If you install any of these, please indicate which version you are using.

We need to know the background to the problems you report. If testers depart from a standard installation this only confuses the situation for the rest of us. If you are not using a standard installation then please inform us with specific details of how you have done things differently. Thanks. :)
