Question New smilies not displaying in preview

New smilies not displaying in preview was created by jgkiefer
Using Kunena 1.5.4 | 2009-07-11 | 1730 [ Fale ]
I added new smilies to the default language folder.
They show up in more smilies and clicking on them inserts the smilie code.
The smilies do not display in preview but show up in forum post.
How can I get the new smilies to display in preview.
How can I get them to show in the left pane instead of more smilies. The checkbox does not seem to change the display location of the smilie library.

Yeah, there's a bit of a trick to using the "preview" smileys.
The first thing to know is that your smiley images are stored in the folder: ../components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/images/english/emoticons (assuming you are using the default_ex template, which you should be, and that you are using the English language file). If you are using a language other than English then the folder name will be different.
The second thing to know is that you can associate any image file (.GIF, .JPG or .PNG) with a smiley BBcode. You can upload your own image files into this directory. For example, you could associate the text :swing: with the image swing.gif. These matters are discussed in detail in the Wiki article Smiley management .
The trick, however, in getting the "preview" image for your own files (like swing.gif, for example) - and this is what I didn't write in the Wiki article - is that you need to upload another file into that directory with "-grey" added to the filename. For example, for swing.gif you need a file swing-grey.gif.
Does that explain things?

I added -grey to the file names and they still do not display in preview. The original ones do but the added ones do not. Any idea on how to fix this? Also how do I get the new smilies to show in the left side of the edit window.
Here is a link to my forums with the problematic smilies.

Hello,
Do you have added your new smilies in the kunena admin panel, like sozzled said ?

Well, maybe there's a bit more of a trick to this situation than I first thought! :side: To be honest with you, I gave up worrying about creating a "-grey" image for every extra smiley that I added and - you know what? - I haven't had a single complaint from my users! But I undestand your desire to solve this technical problem, so let's see what we can sort out.
Here's a bit of "folklore" for you. Some time ago, back in the bad old days of K 1.0.7b (I think), when I was experimenting with this matter, I seem to recall that I needed to create a copy of all my emoticon images in the default folder as well as the default_ex folder. I can't confirm that this is the case, but here's something you might like to try:
Copy all the images from ../components/com_kunena/template/default_ex/english/emoticons into ../components/com_kunena/template/default/english/emoticons! Try that and let us know if it works. Alternatively you could sacrifice a young maiden at the spring equinox and chant some magical words ... but that's probably illegal where you live. Good luck
